Hey guys... super noob here trying to learn the basics of mapping...

just watched a video on youtube where someone mapped the autobouncer effect to their traktor and triggered it to her two left volume fader knobs (for gestural effect) ...i followed her mapping to a "T", yet my learn function wont let me use the fader that she had used in the video....it DOES let me use a button, but the faders look really cool and i have a feeling its something super simple that i am missing.

here is the video of what i am trying to replicate...

I did notice she had "Generic MIDI" as her DEVICE, whereas mine was the traktor F1....maybe this is the problem? Although i tried putting generic MIDI as my device and copied all her inputs (CH.13 cc. 006, CH.13 cc. 007) but that was a waste of time and didnt work at all, probably bc i have no idea what i am doing :)

anyways, help would be awesome. Aloha.

Yes you answered your own question basically. And also messages sent from a controller aren't the same sent from another one or from a different model.
As a side note, for the F1 you have three potential dimensions:
    - the native mapping using a kind of HID protocol
    - a user mapping, using the same protocol
    - a midi mapping, using midi messages.

You can have two mappings co-existing (the native one and either a user or a midi one), but not at the same time, but you can switch from one to another. The native protocol will not allow you to use faders as buttons, that's a restriction implemented by NI (for a reason I don't quite understand, but it is how it is).

So what you need to do is to:
    - open traktor's preferences, go to the F1's tab on the bottom left. You have an option to tell Traktor which kind of alternative mapping you want to use, so in your case, you want a midi mapping. Just tick that option.
    - to switch from the native mapping to the midi one, you press shift + browse (as stated within your manual). And to switch back, the same.
    - you need to have/create a midi mapping for your F1

Still within Traktor's preferences, go to the controller manager's tab, with the add button on the upper half, add a generic midi mapping if you're starting from scratch, and create your commands from there, learn the needed controls, etc.
I assume you will be able to do the rest from there. Of course the F1 has its own midi messages.

As a side note, you can set up the midi messages sent from the F1 (if you need to, not sure you will, but it's best to know it's possible) using the controller editor (ie, the external program), you can also choose to start your F1 in midi mode as an option using that editor (as far as I remember).

That should put you on the right path hopefully. Have fun.

By the way you can also alter the native mapping, but I didn't want to confuse you too much and it's best to use the user or midi layers anyway. All is probably covered in your F1's manual.
