    Gentlemen,

I took delivery of a Faderfox Controller yesterday.

I only had chance to play with it last night so a full review will follow when I have had chance to properly test the device.

However my initial reaction is that the Micromodul is everything I hoped it would be.

The build quality is excellent, the set up is minimal and it works out of the box perfectly.

Congratulations to Mathias at Faderfox for developing an excellent tool!

    Sean.

Argh -- I'm jealous. I want one but am in California, & a friend of mine in Japan wants one. I'm gonna have to find a customs mule.... :)

Yes I got one too and it's awesome, so much so that I'm probably going to retire my UC-17 which I now use only for the midi pass-thru. You probably won't believe how much attention to detail went into the DJ1 until you actually had one in your hands. Mathias also went through a lot of effort to make sure my friend from France who came to visit me here in Brazil would get it on time before his flight. I now find the quality/price ratio so good that I would have been willing to pay full customs on it.

How difficult would it be to sell them in Amercia?

Probably very, and time-consuming. He has to get UA approval for the circuitry and power supply, at the very least. That's why I was suggesting he try to contract with NI or another large vendor (M-Audio would snap this up). I don't know how big his operation is, but I would think he would increase sales enormously by licensing to a large distributor.

Meantime, I'm trying to find ways around this shipping issue....

If someone wanted to casually ship a few of these into the states, or stick it on eBay or something, i'd buy one. :D

Curious: Why do you think the DM2 is good at loops? Can you give me some examples? I'm very sorry that I bought a DM2, since a few weeks later the post about the faderfox came around :( but I'm curious as to what it's good at.

    stucked in a loop

Its just I find the DM2 to be convenient to make loops. I guess it depends about the way and the music U mix also. There is 3 things I do with loops :
Use them before jumping to a track
Rearrange track on the fly to make long version on the fly. When I see people having fun, I make it a bit longer, I loop a part of the tune and make a smooth translation to the same track, so they can have fun extended.
And the last one is I like a 4 bar loop then decrease to 1 bar, 1/2, 1/4, even 1/8 Or I play with short loops and filters at the same time. Well its demand a bit of coordination but its alright.
For all that I really like using the DM2 because I can have my loop length preset just under my fingers.
In loop mode, the mode 2 u can activate loop length directly or increase/decrease length, move the loop position. In live situation I can really express how I m feeling the sound.
Except that I think it has a lack of ergonomy. I don t say its a bad controller just it just wasn t designed for Traktor.
I hope I answered your questions.

I have both a DM2 and a DJ1 - I think they are complementary and work great together. I use the DM2's wheels to do pitch bends to beatmatch and also program the 26 buttons to move about a song, but the DJ1 has all the faders and knobs for volume and equ.

Rockage! I never knew you could change the loop length on the fly like that, you can get some really trippy effects going over to the next song like that. Thanks for the tip :)

I'm gonna screw around with this some more, I really like the possiblities. Gives me an excuse to use the DM2 again :)

Hey, how did you manage that? The standard DM2midi settings have the DM2 set up for scratching which I almost never do, but being able to pitchbend up and down a bit with it would be sweet!

luckily I had written it down. Edit the scratch ring controls:

    - set them to "single parameter" out in incremental mode
    - make them output a control level of 64 on the same channel as the ring (min 64, max 64) after being unused for 20ms. This will reset the pitch to 64/128 = 50% = normal level = no pitch bend
    - in traktor use the control directly, not incrementally

The attached pic was actually from somebody else on these forums I think. Also make sure you've got DM2Midi 1.1.

Just echoing Sean's comments at the top of this thread.

The Faderfox controller isn't "good", ...it's freaking marvellous!!! :D :D :thumb: :thumb:
Mine arrived this morning, & I can confirm that it's a well designed & built unit.

Set up is fairly simple. The only confusing bit was configuring the midi stuff in OS X's system preferences. But once you actually find the midi settings, it's very straightforward.

I've only had a quick play with this at work this morning (not much work getting done at the moment!! ;) ), so a full report later.

    But 1st impressions. .......WOW!!!
