From what I've heard on this forum (and on the Ableton one) these are some of the best controllers out there, not just for Traktor, but for Ableton as well. Does anybody have a friend who lives in Europe who could hook me up with one of these and somehow get it to the U.S.? Apparently for some reason the maker cannot ship them to the U.S. I would be willing to throw in a few extra bucks for good measure. I know there are a lot of other people out there dying to get there hands on one of these too...

    Hi,

I am living in Europe - would not mind to do the "forwarding" if you cover the cost for the postage. To ship this item to my place, it costs 185,50 EUR (including p&p), additional costs arise for forwarding the item. www.deutsche-post.de (german postal service) says a package via airmail up to 20 kg costs a sensational 44,- EUR. That's expensive, I think, but maybe it is possible to find a cheaper solution.

Contact me via this forum or nolens2004@yahoo.de if you wish. Just trying to help.

    Greetings,

    dr. g

I have been emailing the people at faderfox and am waiting for a reply on how much they would charge me for bul and how much the box would weigh.

I am then going to get my friend in england to relay them to me via fedex.

I will then mail them out to people in the us or put them on ebay or something,

Not to be a d!ck or anything, but I would have to say that the Faderfox is great. I used it live in Detroit this past weekend. Its very handy, but it takes a bit getting used to.

So what is the latency like? Is it a USB Midi or pure midi interface?
I'm agonizing over whether to throw in and buy one too.

I would love to know what NI's controller plans are but I know Mums the word and NO I'm not asking, just being rhetorical ;)

It is great. Actually zero. The DJ1 is my 4th MIDI controller and I never saw such a direct reaction. There is a visible latency but it is so short that you can neglect it. There is no audio latency appreciable; punching is absolutely no problem.

My DJ1 is connected via the soundcard (M-Audio Firewire Audiophile). The latency is set to 13 ms (buffer size: 512).

    I hope that helps. ;)

Latency on the “USB to Midi” device is usually only a problem for Notebook user since the device is sharing resources with other devices.
I’m using a “Com to MIDI” device that has zero latency. You might try on of those the see if that helps you.

I was using a MOTU Fastlane USB-MIDI interface. I saw absolutely no latency of any kind.

    Hi Hobbes,

As you and most of the users of a USB2MIDI device already notice there is no notable latency when using such a device. But the chances to get a problem with an USB2MIDI device are bigger when you’re operating from a notebook. So therefore a COM2MIDI could be of use.

Are we close to buying for the U.S.

It was mentioned a while back that PHP was going to see about buying a box of them and ship to the U.S. Any action there? I would like to get one if it going to happen.

    Another owner of the DJ1

i've just received my DJ1 here in the U.S.A. (had a friend in germany send over to me) and i had the opportunity to play out with it twice this past week and again tonite. Only a few minor mess ups on my end (accidently stopping the currently playing deck to then quickly start back up on the next beat after i realized my error). You have to be totally aware and on top of which decks is the active decks because there is only one set of playback/pitch controls available to you at one time.

Like Hobbes has mentioned already, it does take a little getting use too. but, i am feeling a little more comfortable with it. I've even added a few of my own setup customizations to some of the controls so that now i can do loop in/out when i hit the SHIFT and fine pitch +/- keys.

I dig the DJ1 much much better than using my ol oxygen 8. this will now rest at home. the feel of the knobs and sliders is nice and firm. Using the DJ1 is almost getting you a step closer to just mixing with the power of your thoughts/brain. I'm looking at the laptop screen a lot less which is good thing when it comes to these laptop performances. i either stand or sit with the DJ1 to perform. when i sit, i'll sometimes just place right on my leg and jam out like ray charles or something make all these funny faces.

I love that you can load tracks and scroll through the current playlist with this thing. I've since rediscovered the filter which definitely sounds better than it did like in version 2.1 i think. maybe it was the same... but... i finally use the filter sparingly again.

Mathias over at FaderFox was easy to conduct business with and was very professional and efficient.

the only thing i'm still trying to figure out is that when you load in a track into a deck from the DJ1, it automatically starts to play. This i Don't want. I've tried to look in the input preferences to change this.. but haven't found yet.

the search/scrub knob is great for cueing up to where you want to start playing your music from.

I can't wait to play out with it again tonite.

    @ blancodisco

OK you guys are going to make me have to get one!
Benny, this is a shot in the dark, but I know there is a bug in T2.5.3 where if you hit the Record button, the last.nml file can get weird and it affects some of the Reset functions in the preferences. So, for giggles, trash the last.nml file and restart Traktor and see if that stops the automatic playing of the next song. If the does fix it, remember to trash the last.nml file after you've hit the Record button.

    hey sean.

i figured out the solution.. mainly by just reading the F'n manual!

basically, mathias at faderfox sets a default mode of 'autoplay' when the device leave the "factory" to automatically start playing a track and switch the mode to seek/scratch on the DJ1. to disable...
go into the system mode by hitting the two system buttons and simply push the select deck (green key) to have deck A's LED illuminate. it's defaulted to B.

    problem solved.

i just setup more looping controls on the device so i can mess around on the fly. now i can do my fatboy slim remix edits live by shortening the length of loops to 1 beat, 1/8 note, 16th note on the fly and in time and release the loop the play along again.
it's fun to try to execute in a musical way.

you'd definitely dig this thing dr. brooks...

    ez.
