What are some of your favorite drum kits/ Virtual Instruments/Sound Libraries to use at the moment? Buy anything new? I just wanted to what you guys are using. I was thinking about Halionsonic 2, Sampletank 3, Tone 3 (gladiator?).Thanks.

Komplete will set you up with mostly everything you need. Ultimate will give you everything you need and then some. Right now all of the drum kits I use are either Maschine formatted kits by NI or 3rd party devs like Gold baby or kits from hip hop drum samples. You don't need a lot to get busy.

Personally I really like the layout of Halion Sonic 2 (more user friendly than Reaktor and Kontakt). I often use it in standalone with the Maschine controller in midi mode; the knobs set to control the 8 QCs and the Group buttons set to control the 8 pads (which can play chords). I can then use my keyboard or Maschine's pads to play lead.

As far as third-party Maschine kits goes, you can't go wrong with Uppercussion.

Komplete is a winner for instruments, but less so for FX. It's worth spending a lot of time looking around online for free/cheap VST FX.

I was using FL Studio for about 10 years before Maschine, so I have quite a collection built up. I have spent a lot of time trying various free and cheap VST FX found online, and I consider that time well spent.

I use Kontakt *a lot*. There are a ton of great third-party samples for Kontakt out there, and a surprising amount of good free stuff.

Current favorite instruments outside of Komplete include Linplug Spectral, AAS Chromaphone, and Plogue Chipsounds. But I'm still just as likely to use something older like ReFX PlastiCZ or Kore Player.

MicroTonic is a great source of wonky drum sounds, though its internal sequencer mostly annoys me and its the MIDI default is a couple octaves lower than Maschine's.
