+1 light-strip aided key switching and instrument register would be very helpful

I'm pretty sure light strip assignments are going to be kept internally to NI/NKS products, but it would be nice to get outside support. Wouldn't that require VSL to partner with NI?

    YUP.

    Would be nice.

Of course given the reach of KONTAKT another option might be for NI to develop their own KONTAKT and KK-friendly plugin-server

That would be very nice if done properly.

Checking out a new S88mk2 (still in trial period ...).
Although quite a few vendor have made an effort to be NKS-compliant (to some extent at least), there still are a lot (!) of vendors (and libraries of 'participating' vendors) that are not NKS (and possibly) will never be ... (Unfortunately)

But the potential usefulness of the lightstrip ( I was really looking forward to it), is greatly reduced, because of stupid key-switch positions of many libraries.
Even a 88 keyboard only covers 2/3 of potential note values, and in shows :
Too often, key-switches are invisible and require transposing several octaves to the left or to the right - making it totally unpractical.
If people just could agree to choose a well-defined "default instrument range" of eg 5 octaves (very few instruments, incl piano of course have a playing range as large as that), and leave the rest for keyswitching a.o.

Even trying to work with an additional small midi keyboard (set to same channel) just for doing the keyswitches provides no solution, since vendors keep putting them 'anywere' on the keyboard, and repositioning them all is impossible/impossible amount of work.

The only practical use I can find for it now is for drum/percussion plugins/libraries...

Such a shame ... (they do look nice !!!)

Amen to the above - its yet another reason that the whole KK business is a bit of a "parsons egg" as we like to say in England..

I'm in the business of setting up VIENNA ENSEMBLE templates for NI KOMPLETE ULTIMATE and just keep wondering whether its just worth selling the controller for something else.. and using an alternate "roll your own" method of key switching like a the pros seem to do...

KK is a great idea but delivered - even in MK II in a half-arsed. fashion.

Also...... I really wish that KONTAKT could be launched and just used by itself outside of the KK plugin and that KK would still support - light strips at least....

I see full integration of KK in VEP has been requested for years. You would think that with JunkieXL using a KK S88 in his videos that NI would have addressed this by now. I love my new S88 and just added VEP on a slave only to discover that the light guide and controls do not work. For the love of God, please, please, please add this functionality.

I think with the progress of SSDs and the leaps happening in CPUs, NI is less interested in this kind of support. I used run a slave PC for VEP since v4 and up to v6. Nowadays, I'm doing the exact same workload with a 13" laptop and two external SSDs hosting libraries. Times have changed, and VSL's market its becoming more niche around their instruments. While it would be nice to have the integration you ask, NI seems to be have no interest in at least responding after all this time.
