Oh I have tried on 2 other laptops and a mac. Mac shows no issues but I'm not about to buy a Mac for DJing on an S4, that's silly. An HP Envy 14 and a Alienware M11x, my friends generously let me borrow for testing. Both of them showed issues too. Both of them had issues wiped away by using the Audio 2 and 4 DJ.

I'm sure you can do the maths ... but the anecdotal evidence suggest the figures aren't very good ...

Try any other card on your 'untweaked' OS sometime ... and you'll see 'how things should be'.

@speedycake, i have Alienware M11x and works fine with Traktor S4, what you have to do to "fix" is to:
    1. run on integrated Intel HD Graphics Video if has one, because the "external" card (nVidia example) use additional audio channels (for HDMI audio out) and slow down performance, see on audio devices.
    2. install ASIO driver and use Traktor S4 via ASIO by setting preferences in first tab in S4 software.

Dont easily insult peoples inteligence i for one tweaked my pc in everyway described in the ni tweak guide it still didnt resolve my issue the bottom line is there is a conflict with the driver and windows ni refuse to tesolve this

Like i said anyone looking to buy one dont bother get the pioneer one strange thing is u plug it in and it works and the funny thing is that ut basically uses the same tractor software no tweeking needed

Reason! Soundcard is different and drivers were tested before release

    Well done pioneer!

Hey mate no its not that button. I'm sorry i described the problem incorrectly. it's not constant. It's the same problem that the other guys have. I installed the s4 on a friend's mac and it's working perfectly. So i decided to install mac os on my laptop until a proper driver comes out. I'll inform you guys if it works and send a link to install mac os on your laptops. Still i'm very angry with Native Instruments for not providing a correct driver and not informing us at least that they are working on a solution for this problem.

Tried that, of course I installed the drivers too. Had the same issues. I'm really starting to wonder if its the S4 themselves having issues or the drivers...

I say this partly because seeing the people who don't have issues and the ones that do, there isn't fairly enough consistent data to find the one laptop that it'll work perfectly with. I wish I could have a statistical count of people who have issues and people who don't. If it's really the soundcard physically having issues with Windows then I think someone at NI needs to own up to the problem.

delete your old drivers they could be possibly causing the drop outs

Not sure this will help anyone, but I also heard a tip from Ean Golden on DJ Techtools on how to set the latency setting in TPro. Basically, start with the highest latency setting, run a track on all 4 decks, turn on all possible effects and then start to reduce the latency setting until you hear pops or cracks, then turn the latency back up a notch, until the sound is clear again. He said a latency of up to 10 ms is acceptable, what ever is above that, is going to basically affect your performance. What I'd like to point out is, it seems pops and crackles are expected!

If you cannot get below this level of latency, then you have one of serveral possible issues.

    1. The computer just isn't powerfull enough.
    2. The computer isn't set-up correctly, which is a general problem with WinOS systems. Think about how many games have issues with sound and graphic cards.
    3. The sound driver is actually of poor quality or even the software itself has bugs.

Quite a lot of choices and the responsiblity for "getting it right" is on both sides of the table, with the customer and the software company.

I don't mean to distract the discussion from the issue at hand, but now I wonder myself, with the "minimum requirements" on a computer NI sets, if the S4 can truly be run with a 10ms or less latency. I have a Pentium 4 with 2.8 GHz and 2 Gig RAM and definitely can't get TPro (no S4) under 10ms. Maybe Ean's "limit" is also very tight for professional reasons. I also wouldn't perform with this computer either.:p It is just food for thought for NI. Like, set minimum requirements, but also have a suggested requirement on the hardware for professional use?

I found where Ean said what I said he said.:) It was in his review of the new Traktor 2 software.

He says it at about minute 6.

ok mate youre right i apologize. i do genuinely believe though that you can get it to work as long as you have decent specs on the laptop and show some patience with the configuring or maybe get some help 'streamlining' the laptop. it'll be worth it when you get up and running believe me.

Dude i am running the s4 on a high spec pc so this is what doesnt make sense to me the funny thing is if u install the asio4all driver the s4 runs sweet but it for some reason disables the headphone control.

Bearing this in mind it proves the the traktor driver ITSELF is causing the latency errors not the pc itself.

Testing various drivers has proved this i mean why are there no latency issues on the asio4alk driver and its a big issue with traktors own drivers

I understand people say they have it working my response! 80% of them are on macs! Now lets not forget s4 has no issue on mac like the drivers were desighned on a mac platform! The other 20% are obviously happy with drop outs and minor crackling.

End of the day its clear the software is buggered they could at least make the effort to update it!

I just installed OSX Ideneb on my Acer Aspire 5732Z

On windows 7 64 bit with all tweaks as recommended the highest setting I coulddo without drop outs was 44khz and 256 latency

    Now with OSX
    96khz buffer 128 5.1ms

OSX is just installed.. no updates done to traktor. just the first version straight from the installation disc

Is there going to be a driver update. Yes or No? That's what we need to know.

Ok i read one of the moderators i think Thomas NI and has directions in how to fix the problem. Here is the link for the guide http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125693

Also i observed from that guide that there is a hotfix from microsoft that applies in the following situation:

    Consider the following scenario:
You have a computer that is running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7.

You connect a full-speed USB audio device to a high-speed hub, and then connect this hub to the root hub of a USB 2.0 EHCI host controller on the computer, OR you connect a high speed USB 2.0 audio device directly to the root hub of a USB 2.0 EHCI host controller on the computer.
You start an audio playback or recording program, such as Sound Recorder. This program opens the USB audio device.
In this scenario, you notice that there is high CPU usage approximately every 15 seconds on the computer. Additionally, you may experience skipping in audio playback from the audio device when overall CPU usage reaches 100%.

Here is the link to that hotfix from microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981214

I have already downloaded the hotfix and will inform you guys if it worked.

    Mac OS X on VMware

    Hi there,

    am new here...
I have a lot of interest in the S4, but am a little scared of all the
troubles it has with Windows... I am a Windows user and there is
no chance i would get a Mac... so I liked the Hackintosh sollution...
Now I know that hackintosh isn't allways working great...

So I was wondering if running a version of Mac OS X on VMware
    was a good sollution?

I don't think that's illegal and could be easier as having to install
    hackintosh...
