    I Have the Ultimate Solution

Since I have done this I have had no problems at:) I got rid of the S4 and bought the Dennon MC 6000 and it is more intuitive, great sound card (that actually works), better knobs, more intuitive looping and cueing, and a cue adjust, and you can also spin cdj and vinyl using it.

So yes getting rid of the S4 is the ultimate solution for Windows users because obviously NI isn't going to fix this and don't care about their windows users. Just sayin:confused:

I don't think getting rid of a S4 and jumping ship is a solution.

I mean I don't know about you guys but I love the S4. The simplicity of use and the endless freedom of creativity makes this unit one of the best. I'm not putting down the other units out there but the s4 is simply made for Traktor. If you want Itch or any other software base perhaps a different controller will work better. But, in my opinion the S4 and Traktor go hand to hand with no comparison.

I'm also very happy to announce that Spazige helped me set the S4 up with a Focursie Saffire 6 USB external card and I have yet heard not even a slight crack or audio drop. My wireless and anti virus are also disabled.

Is this acceptable or a final solution? No, but I don't see me going to Dennon or dishing extra hundreds of dollars for a Mach which has half the specs as my laptop does.

So I'm ready to roll for my gig tomorrow. I have pushed the unit to the max with playing 4 songs at once and 6 effects going and so far no problems.

Thanks again Spazige ! You saved the day and I'm back in business.

Nearly a year since it's overhyped release, S4 users are still resorting to using external soundcards and NI still acts like there is nothing wrong with S4's soundcard.

I was having the same issue as everyone else. S4 connected to a 5 year old Toshiba (Satellite P205) laptop, which is equipped with Intel Core2Duo T5450 @ 1.66Mhz and only 2GB of RAM. I had wiped out the HDD and re-installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from scratch a couple of months ago. There isn't much of anything installed on the laptop but the experience was just terrible, lots of random pops and clicks.

Yesterday, I installed Windows XP SP3 along side of Windows 7 and wowwww, immense difference. Night and day so to speak. Played with it for an hour upon completion and not even a single pop or click. Now I have it as dual-boot, so whenever I want to run Traktor Pro 2, I boot into Windows XP. I totally recommend it.

If you guys are having the same situation and living in Charlotte, NC - get at me, literally no need to spend further money on external sound cards and etc.

I did the same thing for three years before I got a mac. Especially on lower spec machines XP works like a charm.

    WTF? Cannot be true!

I finally bought this flagship of a controller because I was tired of all the problems with Torq & Xponent.

But now it seems like the problems with Traktor Pro 2 and Traktor Kontrol S4 is much worse!

Pausing, stopping, jumping, cracks in the sound. And I have even tried to do some of the things that NI recommend on the massive & crazy list of suggestions.

And NOW I read this thread!

Its now more than 1 year ago these first topics in this thread, and its still not solved!
I have downloaded and installed all updates from the service center.

Besides the problems with the sound, then I find that not all buttons work. E.g. the buttons for effects are only working on deck A! The other decks you have to click the button in the software!

And now suddently a new problem arises: The music stop / freezes completely!
And it does it after few minutes! I have restarted both controller and software several times.

It actually seemed like it started after reinstalling the program.

    GISP! What should I do?

I allready tried to select 1 of my other soundcard drivers, even before I read this article, e.g. the one from Xponent and also the one from Asio4All and also the -Audio FastTrackPro. But there comes an error saying that the soundcard is not connected.

Is there a trick here I should do to make it work with another soundcard/ASIO driver?

And why are there 2 settings in the Prefs of Traktor Pro 2?
There are both "Audio Device" and "Built-in soundcard" and for both selectings you can choose between all my drivers. How should they be set to work best?

PS: My S4 is only 1 week old, so Im a newbie on this. ;)

I was having the pops and crackling problems it drove me nuts, but after a little research and trial and error. it simply came down to turning off my network adapters located in device manager. fixed the problem and everything works great, problem solved.

    What about the Vestax VCI-400?

Has anybody got any experience of this new Vestax VCI-400 controller and if it is as unfriendly to Win7 as the S4?

If it worked I'd switch in a heartbeat. Feel I've been conned having to use a seperate external soundcard the whole time.

Seriously, try disabling your network cards through device manager if you are having trouble, worked for me on winxp

Wsup guys? Just thought I'd share my experience with the S4 and help some of you out. Unfortunately if you are using Windows 7 OS you WILL have problems. The sound drivers for 7 and S4 just don't work together at all. I pretty much read every thread and every page of this thread but no matter what I did I still had drops in audio and cracks/pop sound. So I bit the bullet and bought external card. I was lucky to have a good guy from this thread point me to a solid card. I went with the Focursite Saffire 6 USB.

    http://www.guitarcenter.com/Focusrite-Saffire-6-USB-Audio-Interface-105783526-i1476612.gc

It is a little bit pricier then the other cards but you absolutely get what you pay for. Since the purchase I have DJed gigs from big to small and made multiple mixes without a single drop or glitch. I also see that other people tried to save some money and go with less expensive options. Well, as you can see they are still in this thread looking for help and still having issues. The Saffire works almost the same as the S4 with the headphone cue mix. The only difference is you plug your headphones to the Saffire box and use its headphone volume. Everything else stays the same. You still cue songs the same way and you still use the cue knob on the S4 just as you would normally. There are very small adjustments to make wit audio routing but that shouldn't take you more then 5 minutes to set up.

I know many of you think that this is not right and refuse to dish out the extra cash. Trust me I know the frustration ! I found out the hard way when this was happening to me during live gigs with no external card. But, since then I have had ZERO problems. Not even one glitch and trust me I say zero. The bottom line for me was that I wanted to stick with the S4. Even after this huge headache I swear by the S4. The setup, the ease of use, the layout, and the overall functionality of the S4 for me is still superior compared to any controller I have seen on the market till today. If NI was smart they would refund some of us some money because of this horrific issue with Windows 7 OS but no matter how much you post and complain you all know they are not going to do much. So yes the product itself is awesome but the support sucks and the fact that after over a year they still don't have a solution for this is just a joke. Shame on NI for not getting on top of this and resolving it on time. It's not like these units are just 1 or 2 hundred dollars. But, anyways what's done is done and I'm still happy I chose to stick with this.

Well hope this helps some of you and you guys have a merry x-mas and a happy new year. If you go with this card and need help setting up hit me up and I will be happy to help.

Right, that's maybe cause the drivers still suck.
