Sleight of Beat nailed it! Seems like its a x64 problem! Works like a charm on my Win7 x86 and like crap on my Win7 x64...

Most laptops is bundled with Home Premium x64, have anyone tried reinstalling with Win7 Pro or Ultimate?

Well if you say you support an OS, then you should... no matter whos fault it is!

YES! I said this in another thread: someone should sue them for releasing their products too soon, that way they would learn the lesson and software companies will stop doing that practice, If it needs 2 years testing, it needs 2 years!

    No. That is not permitted.
Beta software is not for distribution.

Easy for you to say Karlos, since according to your profile you own a Macbook.
This whole sh*t with the messy driver is pushing me to buy a Macbook also, as soon as the new model comes out.
In the meantime my S4 is collecting dust, I'm really fed up with this. Most annoying that NI is not keeping us up to date if they're working on this at all and how they're progressing.
BTW: are you an employee of NI? You're a moderator, use your contacts to give us information please!

Exactly...it if says its X64 compatible the it should be x64 compatible...end of story.

If it doesnt work with 64bit systems then its up to NI to release a driver that does,

i think at the end of the day..if someone from NI came on to the forums and said something simple along the lines of Hi all, apologies for getting back to you, but yes we are working on a soloution for fixing up the issues noticed with audio drop outs etc..and due to extensive testing it is taking some time".

That would at least put this chain of topics for the same issue to rest for a while.

Its getting pretty rediculous that no one from NI has even mentioned anything...Brutal customer service if you ask me!

    Exactly my point.

BTW: problem is not only on x64, also x32.

After a few months of, "it's your Dell laptop," "Windows can't do audio," "you need to disable your network card," "you need a fresh install of windows," "you need to run gamebooster," "buy a mac," I finally returned my Kontrol S4 and bought a Denon MC6000. I don't have to disable anything, I don't have to tweak anything, I can stay online and DJ for hours without a single hiccup. Latency can be set down to impressively low values, works well with multiple DJ programs, it even has mic inputs so I don't need a mixer when DJing mobile. I've been running it with Traktor Pro for a few days and I'm quite happy with it.

Just for kicks I installed a demo version of Traktor on a little Atom powered micro PC in the station running XP. It analyzed songs really slow, but I could use it with the Denon at 30ms latency with no problems.

That's what everybody should do so they will learn. Damn, I still prefer the S4, the Denon is too crowded. :(

Yeah, I've just been playing with the Denon Itch Controller, quite like the software, but the jogwheels don't compare to this S4's.

May try loading the 32 bit OS after reading this.

Maybe NI has a silent under the table agreement with Apple? :D Did anyone think about that?

    Nah, that can't be......:p:)

I hope we don't have some of these reported sound issues, when we get our S4. That would be disappointing.

Crossing fingers and will definitely report back, if we do.

Why on earth can't a company like NI simply hire the expertise to develop a fully functional Windows audio device? ....

Other manufacturers prove it be perfectly possible .... NI show themselves to be incapable of working it out ...

I have now tried the beta driver sent by ni as a result of my ticket.... It is 80 -90% of the way there... Much improved, I don't think we are far off an update driverbeen issued for those of us with latency problems.... But I won't hold my breath just yet... :)

Don't bother installing 32 bit Windows, I have the same problems with the S4.

True, reinstalled with x86 and x64 Ultimate, same issue in both cases. Clean install with only USB 3.0 drivers (witch was needed to even get the thing to work)...

    Snap crackle and pop!

Its not like most have this shopcreated frankensteins laptop, it major brands like HP and in my case Sony Vaio thats f*ed up!

Well they have the week to give me an acceptable answer, now they are just stalling for time like any regular helpdesk. They dont have to solve it, just show that they will do everything to fix it...

    Come on germans.... schnell!

    Hey Guys,

I have an S4 under Windows Home Premium x64 with a 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 RAM and a 320GB hard drive and have been using Traktor Scratch Pro for over a year now and never had problems.

With the the S4 Pro software, right out of the box version 1.0.0 and original drivers were a mess, upgraded to 1.0.1 and the 2.9.4 drivers and the same problem, just a bit better.

I ended up disabling the ACPI-Compliant Battery and having my WiFi off and I went through two gigs this weekend with no problems. I heard about the Beta drivers, 2.9.6 and emailed support for them and received them.

Well, they have a LOT of improvement, including a USB Latency setting in the audio driver control panel from 1, 2, 3, 4ms, plus an integrated Latency Checker just like latencymon which will show a chart and any spikes. It also alows latency to be set up to 1024ms.

I made the tests, first enabling only the ACPI-Compliant battery and setting the USB Latency to 2ms as requested in the support ticket and the dropouts were gone, I could set it to 3ms or 4ms and its the same, no dropouts, crackles etc, also 0 USB I/O errors and 0 Audio Dropouts in the Audio Driver control panel. I am using 256ms audio latency but can go to 128ms with no problem, just that I used to own an M-Audio Xponent which would give trouble at 128ms so I stick to 256ms, and the response is instant on the S4 controls.

The only thing that cannot work is having WiFi enabled, even at the highest setting, 1024ms for audio latency and 4ms for USB latency, there are still, minimal, but noticable audio dropouts and crackles but I have heard this before with Traktor Scratch Pro users with Audio 4/8DJ and timecodes, even those who use Mac have to turn off their wireless radio to avoid dropouts/crackles.

I highly suggest you email support for the beta driver or just wait for the official release which should be soon I think to get some solutions, just having WiFi off for me is ok as I would only use it in an emergency to get new songs on the fly as I usually have it off because of Windows & iTunes updates which can mess up my live playing.

    Good Luck!
    Tomas.
