Sorry for the delay everyone. Search the library for 'Recontextualizer'. Let me know what you think of it, or if it needs anything fixed.

It's one big pile of guided randomization, following that whole "whack same button over and over until it sounds awesome" concept. The idea is though you set the parameters to guide the randomization, so all the results end up quite useable. You can get anything from electro-acoustic walls of sound, to funky fragmented dance loops (using the step sequencer to retrigger and syncing the LFOs to gate).

    It's tons of fun.

And whoever gave Recontextualizer a 1... that's just not very nice. :-(

I switched the power off, loaded some sounds, set the loop on, switched power on, clicked the morph button, played keys, check my email, drank 2 beers but I'm unable to produce any sound with this revolutionary machine

    :-/

cpu load is about 70% (not so bad for a 500 mph G3)

the out wires monitor "nan" (not a number)

    Someone rated the synth 1,
    I should have given zero,
but may be 1 is for the GUI ;-)

    (c'mon john, just joking !...)

    iMac 500 MHz / OS 9.2.2

    Did I miss something ?

please upload some mp3s, I'm very curious about this synth...

    Hey John,

the instrument works great. It takes a sample and places it any context you like. Unfortunately all of them seem to be beyond the realm of audible sound, at least on my computer.

    G3, 700 Mhz, OS 9.2

I get some cool mangling sounds out of it - the Lucky 7 is the key to a useable sound for me and I think I'll try just that Lucky 7 bit in a couple of other instruments as well

    silence could be golden

Ahem, Iike some others, I have silence from your machine. Where do you 'toggle audio on and off' John?

I'm eager to access this crazed, sweaty sock labyrinth of convoluted, granular mishappenings and bunuliar perunuclear preambles that is 'John Nowak'.

Morph THEN switch audio on, et voila !

warm fat loops, a lot of fun playing with knobs and morphing,

    Nice work !

I gonna rate it right now...

I get sound out of it. But the only sound that comes out is one drone that never changes no matter what I do. I've turned ever knob and switch. Same sound.

the confusing point is that a knob on a synth can affect the ensemble with audio engine off.

I noticed that the blue matrix must be reset as well (audio off and on) before it can produce any sound.

question: are the samplers granular or resynth ?

I noticed that your ensemble can produce very warm drones that I enjoyed a lot, but may be was I lucky with the samples and settings.

Another question about the snapshots: is it possible to store a morph setting. it seems that only the knobs are stored but not the randomized parameters... if not, that could be cool to be able to store those (using an event table?).

The design of your toy is very inspiring and it combines random and knobs in a very cool way : you control and shape the sound, even if the result is always unpredictable.

    Again, very nice work John

    thanks!

    :)

i am always interested in how people deal with the resynth sampler, so i was immediately interested in this. i followed the instructions and happily it worked. and very nice to. i was impressed and very pleased with noises that were being produced. i will use this in my improv duo with a drummer.

i would like to suggest some things that would make it better.
    on/off switch for each contextualizer.
    morphing for the grain size
    morphing for sample select
control for pitch on each contextualizer.

but hey, this is good. i really like the retrigger, also the structure, it was really well laid out.

more like this john please ;-)

It's not possible to store a morph setting, no. I'm not really interesting in such a thing, as this is all about random button whacking fun.

    Plus it's a real pain. :)
