I've been bedroom dj'ing for a while and have recently been offered a small set at my uni freshers event. I will probably be placed in one of the smaller rooms where people are moving about allot or heading for the bar. I tend to play a mix of genres at a number of tempos, however due to the situation would it be best to play a specific type of set?

It also looks like I will be using a pioneer cdjs set up, however I use a traktor s4 mk1 at home usually (which with my late 2013 macbook pro is pretty useless now). Any advice wether to go down the rekordbox and usb stick route or try and link into traktor.

I would link to Traktor since you are already comfortable with that program. As for genres I would play an open format since there will probably be all types of people there. Hope this helps.

Robert, I would use what your used to, the S4... Also play what you've been playing at home... Also don't be doing crazy out of the ordinary tricks, do yourself and you'll be fine. Good luck and have lots of fun.

^^this is good advice. You shouldn't really be treating this gig any different to what you would do in your bedroom. In terms of style and genre anyway. I would definitely avoid using equipment that you aren't used to. You will naturally be nervous given its your first gig, so why add to the nerves by staring at unfamiliar gear?! Play what you play on gear that you use and you'll smash it. Familiarity is key when you get your first few gigs!!
