I think it is about time for NI to invest some resources into correcting the freezing problem when trying to shut down after modifying playlists. This is a pro version of premium software and will make a difference for professionals when it comes time to purchase this type product for our business. This issue has cost me, and undoubtedly many others, precious time and lost data. I hope someone at NI is listening.

obviously, this is sth not everybody is encountering. AFAICS, it's bound to mac ppl, which means: 50% of users dont see it at all. i said it before and i say it again: if you're faced with this issue, go and contact NI support!

Nope not MAC only. Getting it regularly on Windows 8.1 Traktor 2.6.8 (382). Fresh install.

again i will say this , cue and loops etc are saved in the tracks themselves so when you have this problem just run a consistency check .

I regularly save my collection and run consistency checks. That is not the point at all for me. This issue has never caused me to lose any data.

The fact is that the software crashes / locks up in a specific way and the devs need to know about it. Simple as.

I still get this once in a while with 2.6.8 on a Win7 laptop. It has something to do with traktor not being able to retrieve the data in RAM or cache due to (as best is my guess, i'm still trying to identify what happens) using other programs that also take up a lot of memory and/or having traktor running for a long time with inactivity (like more than three hours long). I suspect doing all the other things on the computer is pushing out of cache or RAM whatever type of data traktor uses to keep track of the background tasks. When you close the program it is waiting for a response from the checksum file or bit of data that tells the software what data to actually remove. without the reply, taktor sits waiting like the proverbial fisherman's wife in the lighthouse...

Well, here's my input after a scary experience playing live with Traktor Pro 2 using S4 MK1 and version 2.80 MAC Book Pro Retina 2.8Ghz 16Gb RAM 1Tb flash drive OSX 10.10.2. Also followed Ean Goldings advice and disabled wifi / bluetooth prior to running Traktor.
After fresh boot of MAC ... played gig... got the flushing background tasks on close down (fortunately gig over) ... interestingly no changes were made to playlists etc during entire evening (which seems to be the common cause in this thread).
Not at all impressed given the amount of investment in this NI / MAC configuration.
Dear NI - where is the stability here?
I was considering upgrading to the S8 however may need to re-think this.

I would like to hear what NI have to say about this, as I cant see what else could have been done to prevent such a crash.
    Thanks

The flushing background bg has been around for a long time. Whenever I work on my playlists, of after a gig, I ALWAYS SAVE my collection before closing down Traktor. It saves me a lot of heartaches.

@Brettski, I'm guessing the set you played wil not appear in your history?

Hi @snowbro - thanks for your reply... and you are quite right.. nothing in history! Super stuff.
I wonder if NI are even looking at this - worrying given the age of the issue (dates back to 2013 at least from the forum threads). Too busy releasing new controllers by the looks of things. If I continue with Traktor I will follow yr suggestion (many thanks)... however I am looking for a professional tool, which to me means reliability first... wizzy controllers second.
    Thanks again

Couldn't agree with you more ! Although saving the collection is but a small thing to do, this shouldn't be necessary with a professional program.

    Brettski,

how long was your set? did you keep traktor up on your screen the whole time or did you at any point switch to another application while traktor was running? i have a suspicion that that can also cause the flushing background tasks hang to show up.

i think what's going on is something in cache is getting lost due to other programs and data being cached. that may take the place of traktor's data and then the process of flushing traktor's cache or temp file data is unable to be retrieved to complete the process. just a guess at this point though.

i am having a 90% success rate of getting the hang to happen by leaving traktor running for more than an hour while using other programs as well. the main culprit seems to be switching to my file explorer (win7) during traktor's operation so I try to avoid doing so while traktor is running.

taktor has its own form of file explorer (finder in mac?) to display the music folders and tag data and i think changing things via file explorer/finder messes things up.

anyone else notice this type of behaviour?

    Thanks Riddmkidd,
The set was 2.5 hours... and I only had iTunes co existent (I find ITunes useful for searching sometimes, so probably switched to it once or twice). I also had all wifi / Bluetooth switched off and was running from a fresh restart.
I would also add that I am seeing this problem at home when I have a few other apps running.. but importantly Traktor would only be open for shorter periods (30 mins or so).

Thinking its because of iTunes and other apps that use file folder access in different ways that's causing the hang, regardless of how long traktor is running. I've had it happen in under a half hour as well. Try using traktor without iTunes and then with it while searching for songs and see if that causes the hang.

Can do - however do NI not have testing staff that could verify and correct this issue? In reading the forums I am by no means the only user experiencing this issue.

Correct, this still happens for both Mac and PC users. Following freshfluke's suggestion and opening a new ticket with support is worth doing if only to let them know this is still happening. Their last reply to my ticket was to update the software. That didn't solve the problem for me.I still trying to narrow down the conditions that cause this hang to hopefully give support a better chance at actually figuring it out.

ITunes has a built in file explorer so that makes sense. It sometimes happens to me when I have traktor open for only a short while. I'll keep trying to break it and post results here too.
