I have started thinking about trying to add 2 more operators and a pitch envelope to FM4 to find out of I can recreate any DX7 patches with any degree of accuracy or interesting results at least. I will probably run into a lot of technical difficulties.

The DX7 envelope is described as having 4 levels and 4 rates and is pictured like:

What would be a good reaktor envelope to stand in for that?

Here is a handy web DX7 manual for anyone interested in pondering on it a bit. http://www.chipple.net/dx7/

    Reaktor has 4, 5, and 6-Ramp Envelopes.

in your 'Legacy' Folder, you should have a very good FM Ensemble called Cube-X, which uses a 6-Ramp Envelope.

    i have uploaded the Envelope:

are you sure you didn't get a Legacy.zip folder after updating?

i get lost when i get the content but the Legacy Folder has stuff from Reaktor 3 and Reaktor 4. you won't see it unless you unzip it.

    Cube-X is from Reaktor 3.

let me know if you can find the Legacy.zip

i searched my computer for legacy, but it didn't find that file. i'm pretty sure somebody uploaded the whole reaktor 3/4 libraries to the UL at some point but i guess i didn't grab 'em.

thanks, found it. i searched for legacy.zip earlier.

i have to say this is an incredibly janky way to include the 3 and 4 library.

Janky, great new word for my vocabulary.

The break point envelopes are nice but the envelopes in DX7 is a bit different than most. It's called rate for a reason. The time to takes between to levels is dependant on the difference between the levels. So it's really a rate between two points. Also, the rate is faster when above 50 to get unlinear envelopes. No standard envelopes in Reaktor behaves like this.

    ok.

then the idea would be to calc the amps of the two relevant breakpoints and then create a time based on the rate knob?

I've dabbled with the idea of building the DX envelope but never got around to do it. I made some lame attempts 8 years ago using a counter and a clock but had problems finding a counter with increase and decrease working at audio rate. This was before R5 and Core however.
