It can't be installed and activated on a new installation of 10.5.x

Just thought people should be aware!

No, it cannot be activated successfully on a new installation of Leopard (or at least it couldn't on 3 separate machines I tried here).

    It will only work if:

    1) It is installed (with the patch) on a machine that has been upgraded to Leopard from Tiger, or

    2) You install Tiger on an external drive, boot from that drive, install and activate FM8, then copy the .plist files created (in both HD/Library and HD/User/Library) and the FM8 database (in Application Support) from the external HD locations to the corresponding locations on the internal (Leopard) HD. Then you can boot from the internal drive, disconnect the external, and FM8 will work.

I should add that I only discovered this myself through extensive trial and error, and that I received no help at all from NI. I am still waiting for any kind of response to my emails, but luckily I figured it out and have it working.

But to say it is fully Leopard-compatible is quite obviously incorrect at the moment - or at least without providing further information as to how to get it activated!

What I meant to say is: the >installation< should work fine with the Patch, the demo version should run fine for example.

Some people currently have a problem to >activate< via the Service Center on Leopard. This is a Service Center issue on Leopard, not related to FM8 at all. Its currently being investigated with high priority.
And, many users don't have this issue at all.

    Best, Henning

No, I don't think it's a Service Center issue. I also have Kontakt 2.x and was able to activate that on Leopard with no problems. So I think it's something specific to FM8, or at least the relationship between FM8 and the Service Center.

I have tested with all 3 machines available to me and they all had the same problem - I think the users who don't have the issue are maybe using machines upgraded to Leopard rather than new installs of Leopard?

Either way, this situation highlights how bad for customers the Service Center / activation setup is. It would be OK if it really did anything to protect revenues, but as we can see cracks of NI software are freely available, so it doesn't even work! And we - as honest, paying customers - have a situation where we cannot use software we paid for.

That would be one thing if it didn't work on a new OS, of course that can't be guaranteed. But if it works, but can't be activated - that is incredibly frustrating for customers!
