FM8 64 bit is sounding really bad, unlike 32 bit

Is anyone else experiencing differences in sounds between 64 bit and 32 bit when using some of the presets? Great example; Distort-O-Mania, load it up and press and hold middle C. Sounds like a wigged out electric guitar, as it should, in 32 bit. However in 64 bit it just sounds like a distorted "thump".

If you try some of the other presets you will notice some having very odd behaviors. Where many sound the same in both 32 and 64, others have different timbres, in different octaves and others in completely different keys, try Addictive Synth where pressing the C note actually sounds A in the 64 bit.

It is same situation whether I am using the 64 bit in standalone or via DAW (Cubase).

Please let me know if your testing as stated above yeilds different results...maybe I screwed up loading it...maybe?

    ...btw - using 1.2.1 (r1119)

    Hi Tony.

I don't use my NI stuff much these days but I can confirm this problem. I have an FM8 patch that I programmed for a particular piece - in fact, the whole piece depends upon it - and I can confirm that it only plays correctly in the 32 bit version. In the 64 bit version all of the effects are changed and even the basic timbre is wrong. I haven't had time to 'play about' so would be more than grateful if anyone else can comment on this.

Seems to be related to the Morph-Pad -
try this with both x86 and x64 versions:

Load any sound which has not the Morph squares assigned, for example a preset from the FM7 factory.
On the Easy/Morph Page you'll see the same timbre at all 4 corners on the Morph-Pad.
Move the little square into the field - with the x86 you won't/see hear any difference, but with the x64 version the timbre/waveform/Spectrum changes.
(with the Addictive Synth preset try to move the square to the left bottom)
In the corners the sounds seem to be correct.

BTW, still using V 1.1.1 (haven't touched FM8 for awhile - good find, TonyR) - if NI is ever going to fix this bug
(mean - do they still care about FM8, or is it the next thing they will discontinue... ? )
it would force me to move to the new preset format (how it's called ?) - sic...

I received a response from NI yesterday regarding my bug report:

Please take note that Rocky says "future version", not future update. So those that want to use the FM synth going forward in 64 bit might have to purchase the future version "FM9" (aka Komplete 9, Utlimate 9 in my case) to get a FM synth that works properly in 64 bit. That would be really sad.

...and which means that it will probably no longer behave in Kore.

Well no, you could always load it as a plugin. If you meant Kore browser, FM8 already doesn't have it in the latest version.

I don't have the latest version for that very reason. I'm trying to stop NI from forcing me to abandon stuff I've bought and paid for.

I can confirm this bug using FM8 in 64bit Logic. In fact, I'd sent this to NI's tech support over the holidays and received a message saying they don't know of anything like this, and might I send them a recording of what the bad presets sound like...

Resubmitted to tech support. I guess they know about it now. No time-frame on a fix.

They do know about it by now, I'd say.

    Do they ?
The question is, if they really care, I'd say.

And the answer is probably a resounding 'no', I'd say :(

    Grrrr ;)

If only they do what they're not going to do, I wish they would make it Kore compatible.

Seems like K9 is available and yet there are no updates for FM8, et al, to fix outstanding bugs? Slightly outrageous...
