FM8 64 bit is sounding really bad, unlike 32 bit

The last time I can remember NI giving a discount on a Komplete package depending on how much you had in their other products was when the Komplete series originally launched many years ago. I'd already purchased Kontakt, Absynth and Reaktor and got a discount on Komplete based on that. There was also an interesting thing NI had going for a year or two with something called Komplete care (separate purchase) where amongst other things any new synths that came out during the year you got for free.

A lot of Komplete care buyers are still pissed about how Komplete care was discontinued. Right now, any version of Kontakt to Komplete Ultimate is good for a €250 discount, that's the best you can get.

huh? It is 64 bit - I have had it running in Logic 64 bit for ages. It's just this bug that needs fixing.

Exactly. And if presets sound different in 32 bit than in 64 bit it's not a minor one, which means it's not 64 bit ready, because I can't use my presets in the 64bit version. And if I reprogram them in 64bit, they will probably be lost when the update is out. From this follows that I can't use fm8 in 64bit.

In fact it doesn't even matter to me right now, because the new mainstage (my main host and 64bit only) is so buggy as well that I can't use it either.

I am beginning to understand why some people just refuse to pay money for software.

Is it still Kore compatible? Because, if it's not, it fixes a bug but stops me from using it in the way I need to. One step forward, two steps back, as they say.

FM8 stopped being Kore compatible in v1.2.

So. As I thought. If I want an important bug fix, I have to stop working the way I want. And have to re-work a huge number of projects. It's a shitty way for a company to behave and, before the fanboys leap in, I KNOW other companies (eg crApple) behave in this way. That doesn't make it right. And my main area of pissedness over this is that NI went out of their way to break a link that they had so many of us believe and invest hugely in.

    Another little nail.

Oh of course. The update can't install becauase the software isn't found the install won't install because the publisher is unknown (Mavericks)

    Edit: OS X Setting. Fixed.

Why upgrade to a new OS so soon? Wait until it's been in wide public release and Apple fixes the problems with it, along with any issues NI stuff may have with it. If you have a well functioning computer why upgrade the os and possibly mess it up? There's no need to be on the bleeding edge.

What you can do if you want a bugfixed 64 bit version that loads in 64 bit Kore, if you haven't chosen the bypass internal engines option (which I guess many of us haven't so we can keep the ksd loading versions) is overwrite just the FM8 internal engine version with the new one (backing up the old first of course). I have to do this with Reaktor anyway otherwise it won't load new ensembles, now I have done this for FM8 too. It seems to work fine and still loads old ksd patches, it just won't save as ksd itself (but you can still use Kore to save as a ksd - that works too).

Don't the post-ksd versions crash Kore when you do the engine swap trick?

FM8 won't install on my main SL system and FM8 crashed after the workaround. I have too many old programs that won't run smoothly on 10.9 so I'm going to get a small SSD to put 10.5 and 10.6 on. 10.6 was getting a bit instable anyway. Time to move on.

I thought they might but so far no - I've been loading multisounds containing FM8 sounds that aren't in the FM8 library to test the limits and so far it's working OK. Anyway I have a backup just in case I need to swap back. I think this method is more controllable than the global switch.

This is how you know this issue is being ignored and is dead. Oh well. Thank whatever for Serum.
