If Komplete 8 is being cleared what's the chances FM-9 is coming with K-9?

Yet another cause for complaint from Kore users. IF they ever get round to fixing FM8 bugs, it will, of course, no longer be Kore compatible.

    The torture never stops.

    too good

Maybe it's too good a synth and therefore not good for future business, as many people will not bother looking for new synths when there's so much fun to be had on FM8? what a sad world if that's true

Like there aren't things to improve, features to add and bugs to fix..

Ni just released a new app for iOS for DJ's.

It's clear to see where their focus is - NOT on old users that bought products like FM7 or FM8.

"One [new] synth to rule them all" - sounds like the "End of Days" for FM8. Wonder what marketing will come up with if FM8 is dead?

Obviously too early to judge but I can't say I've heard anything in the demos to make me sell my soul.

So, the latest trailer for "the sound of the 21st century" is up on youtube.

Lots of buttons flashing by with beeps and beats running....basically the movie tells you nothing, except perhaps to confirm that Native Instruments is now a beat/DJ-focused company.

I expect that Kontakt will still get attention as it has become a kind of industry standard. I don't hold out much hope for FM8 (or Absynth) though.

They only need to fix the very obvious bugs, will take 'm an afternoon. Is that too much to ask for?

Prepare to be shot down in flames for saying such a thing. I still get hate mail for suggesting this some time ago (albeit in slightly less moderate language )

NI's target audience is now the 'Instant Gratification Crowd'. Those for whom mindless knob-twiddling and pad-bashing is regarded as music-making and for whom coloured lights and faschia panels are more important than sound creation capability; for whom the ability to mangle the music of others is WAY more crucial than the ability to make something original.

The only update I'm expecting to see for Absynth and FM8 is the ability to add new skins and/or colours. I certainly don't expect to see the bugs being squashed.

But I live in hope that someone at NI will wake up and remember how forward-looking they were before they became hooked on following fashion.

There's really one thing I miss in FM8, and every other NI tool: A LARGER INTERFACE I DON'T HAVE TO SQUINT AT!

    It's not much to ask.

Yes. I find I'm getting friction burns on my nose these days.

But I'd also like all the sounds in the 64 bits version to sound the same as they do in the 32 bit one. Again, surely not too much to ask.

Perhaps we ought to start an "It's not too much to ask" thread. We could add to it as we tried to get the tide to not come in.

Haha, we'd never have time to actually use the tools while posting all the little things we miss :p

Oh, all is (mostly) well, thanks :)

I really don't miss much but the interface, but that 32/64-bit problem is something I haven't consciously noticed. Maybe THAT is why I'm so sure it sounds like a sound has disappeared when going through my Kore faves!

Could well be. I have a patch (one of my own) which forms the basis of a whole section of one piece. In 32 bit it's a strange, echoing, mutating pad. In 64 bit it's an iritating, whistling bell!

Ugh! That's quite a difference, yeah. I've been enforcing a strict 64-bit policy, so at least I'm working with uniform bugginess. I wonder what I'm missing out on, and if any of the instruments which seem silent are going to work better in 32-bit, or if they're just miscategorised FX :)

it would be nice to see fm8 get a new ui and better envelopes.
editing envelopes in fm8 is tedious when zooming in and out.
also the ui needs to be like 75 percent bigger.
a ui i have in mind is something along the lines of faw circle synth
