Problems with FM8 1.3 (latest update). Patches I select will not load at all. Uninstalled FM8 and re-installed just FM8 from original Komplete 8 data discs and applied Update to 1.3. Opens in Standalone mode but no library of patches displayed.

Tried to Rebuild Database from the default, doesn't work basically, still no patches displayed and cannot load anything. So basically FM8 not working at all, totally useless.

I am not entirely sure where the exact path to the Library database is stored, and deleting the existing paths doesn't work. In addition I also have bought and installed an additional library "Transient Attacks" and can't find this.

Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated. I have not used FM8 for ages (years) so have no idea as to whether this is a recent issue or not. Seems ironic to me that now when I want to use it it doesn't work.

    Thanks

Just to add that I have now installed FM8 Version 1.2.1 rebooted and no database visible. Upgraded again to 1.3.0. No "bankames" visible at all. However when I click on the "sounds" tab in the file browser all libraries including Transiet Attacks are visible, however I cannot load any by clicking or dragging. It would appear that I have two complete duplicate sets of Libraries available, one is a .ksd stored in "Shared Content" and other in .fm8 format stored in "Sounds".

When I click on the patch panel on the top of the instrument the drop-down list is complete but selecting any does nothing! The up and down arrows do nothing too!

So it appears I have two sets of duplicate libraries and yet when carefully applying the folders in the Options\Database\rebuild DB -- NOTHING HAPPENS!

So FM8 will not load any patches from the libraries which renders the instrument completely kaput!

Can any knowledgeable user or someone from NI please provide some guidance please.

    Thank you.

Well I have just uninstalled FM8 again. Reinstalled from Komplete 8 install discs... it doesn't work (same issue). Applied the update to 1.3.0 DOESN'T WORK!

So what do I do now send a support ticked to NI? Also I can't believe how many issues there are on this forum that remain without any response, it's quite staggering. This explains perhaps why I haven't used FM8 for years, although I do remember it did work at one point.

Just ordered the upgrade to Komplete 9 while the Sale is on. Will try again using Komplete 9 install for FM8 again then.

In the meantime if anyone wants to chip in, your comments/advice would be most welcome. NI are you listening?????

Do you have your FM8 patches stored in their correct location on your computer?

I don't know where they are stored on a PC, but I'm assuming that the location is similar to that on a Mac, which is Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/FM8/Sounds.

And, by the way, the extension should be .nfm8.

The correct PC path is C:/Program Files/FM8. At least that is the path on my PC.

    Well my correct path is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Native Instruments\FM8\Sounds\"

In this folder are 3 directories "FM7 Legacy"; "FM8 Factory"; Transient Attacks" basically ALL my FM8 preset patches and they are all in nfm8 format.

This path has been very carefully typed into "Options" "Database" and "Rebuild DB" clicked on.

    Nothing Happens!

With "Browser" selected in the Navigator the "Bankname" is completely empty. If I click on the patch display name up in the title bar there is a drop down list indicating the patches but clicking/drag-drop does NOTHING.

If I select "sounds" in the browser panel "File Browser" the patches appear in the right hand window. Clicking on any does NOTHING!

No presets LOAD. FM8 is completely and totally useless. Full Stop.

This is in Standalone and as VST.

I'm sure I can't be the only person in world with this issue. There's a ticket open with NI Support on this now. Fortunately FM8 is not one of my go-to synths. If it was I would be hopping mad instead of just irritated.

Thanks for the response it's glad to know someone is listening.

    Hi,
Do the registry settings look okay?

    Location:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\FM8

    Here I have for example:
    ContentDir = C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Native Instruments\FM8

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes my Registry settings are the same as yours, exactly. No problem there. I think it's a bug. There were issues some time ago with the inability to delete a user Dir entered into the Database settings. In fact I think I issued a ticket then and NI confirmed it was a bug at the time. Thankfully this is not an instrument I use at the moment so it's no big loss, it's just I hate having something on my computer that does not work properly.- -- you know what it's like I'm sure. We're all obsessives and perfectionists otherwise we wouldn't be doing this stuff in the first place.

PROBLEM SOLVED: By clean installing Komplete 9 after removing everything by Native Instruments first. Everything working a treat will all the latest updates. Extremely impressed by the additional goodies that came with Komplete 9. Well worth the update from Komplete 8, especially doing this sale period. A no-brainer. Excellent.

Great! Indeed sometimes a complete re-install does help.
