    Hi,
I've been trying to assign BOTH X and Y on my MC808 controlers. I've found in this forum how to go about assigning midi controls via the Master page. The issue is that it only works for either X or Y, but never both at the same time.
    Here are the details:
    • first I set a 1rst controler to "Morph X " (CC=7, located on first line of Midi Control Assignment) by clicking on the midi learn button, CC and parameter are circled in red. I move a 1rst controler to check that Y reacts to the controler: the cursor moves horizontally.
    • then I click on "Morph Y" (CC= -1) and I do the same,. But for some strange reason, when i move the controler, "Morph Y" replaces "Morph X" on the first line, takes the CC value at 7. I move the 2nd controler, and the cursor move vertically.
    • I move both controlers to ensure that X moves the cusor horizontally, and Y vertically. But the 2 controlers move the cursor vertically. Or vice versa according the order I assigned the parameters
    • in a nutshell: it reacts as if was impossible to assign 2 different controlers for each parameter
I've been trying many times, with always the same result. Did I do something wrong? or is there a glitch somewhere?
    thanks

    Hi,

There is no such thing as a Midi CC -1. I guess -1 means it's unassigned. And Midi CC 1 is normally used for the Mod wheel.
Midi CC 7 is normally used for Master Volume.
I would not use any of those midi CCs.
On the web you can find Midi CC charts. I suggest you use undefined Midi CCs for the X/Y pad.

It should be no trouble to assign different Midi CCs to both X and Y. Either by using midi learn, or by writing the midi cc - both ways done in the Master sections MIDI Controller Assignment list.

If you use a allready used midi CC number, then things like you describe can happen.
A midi CC can only be used on one parameter. And you can assign a Midi CC to 2 parameters. That's normal.

FYI: You can reset the MIDI Controller assignment list thrugh the right click menu.

I can also suggest you consult the FM8 manual about MIDI controller Assignments.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I'm no expert when it comes to midi implementation...

For the sake of clarity, I should have specified that I use a Korg T3 as a master keyboard and a MC808 as an external sequencer, to pilot VSTs through Samplitude.

I use the MC808's sliders as controllers. so I assigned a specific slider for each Morph command. Thanks to your explainations, I've realized that whichever slider I moved, they were both sending CC 7, regardless of the midi configuration in FM8 (hence the weird behavior I explained above).

So the problem is my MC808 not being able send specific CC messages for each controller, and not FM8.
I've found a workaround by specifying one midi message via my MC808 (say, for Morph X) and my Korg T3's joystick for Morph Y.
Sounds farfetched, but it now works! Then after recording, I can fine-tune or correct midi messages in my DAW.

Hope this explaination can help those who have the same issue

I'm having the same problem with the -1 for Morph X and Y, specifically in trying to get my Maschine Plus running FM8 to recognize these coming in from a sequencer. Hmmm.

-1 means that morph pad X or Y axis don't respond to any CC.

Ah ok, thanks, that's helpful! Meanwhile I figured out I could set everything up in a Maschine Project, & bind midi CC's to the morph x & y through there. Works really well, though quite a commitment to set up. The other thing seems to be that Maschine+ sorts incoming CC's to the 'in focus' track, not by midi channel. So my original plan, to use CC101 and 102 for x and y, on 8 diff midi channels was a complete fiasco. Unless I'm missing something.

But then I look at the forum from 2017 and find ........

"Maschine does not differentiate between channels for Input MIDI CC"

    Learned something new today!
