FM8 not recognizing patch selection

    MacOS Catalina, utd as of this date;
    Ableton 10 as my DAW, also utd;
    Create new track;
    I drag FM8 to a midi track, and select a patch;
    The patch doesn't highlight;
    Can't select from the drop-down menu, either;
    Doesn't effect already established tracks;
    Midi is being received, the default voice is functioning;
    Reboot of FM8, reboot of Ableton, reboot of Mac have no effect.

    I can't figure out if I've butterfingered a control somewhere that's causing this, but the solution is not readily apparent to me.

    Grateful for any constructive suggestions
