Bug FM8 won´t load after update (standalone nor vst) (ABS5-948)

Hello,

yesterday I ran an update on FM8 after very long time, and since then I cannot open the plugin, nor the standalone edition. When I open Ableton project which has FM8 in it, it will crash. After unninstalling FM8 the project will open normally. Same with the Maschine DAW and FL Studio. Standalone wont even open - nothing happens after double clicking the icon.

I ran updated Win 10 Pro.

I already contacted NI support, from my past experiences it takes them very long to reply, so I am trying my luck even here. Is there a way to downgrade FM8? Somebody having trouble too?

As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like this is a wide spread issue and so we'll need to investigate it with you directly.
I'm sending you a PM now with the previous version if you need to get FM8 running urgently.

The update worked just fine over here (and apparently for many many others, since you're the first one posting about update not working for you), so...

 

Well, I am not sure why, but the update worked when I made another windows account. But when I returned to my normal account it didnt work again. And this was made after NI support suggesting me trying to make a new account, so I think they must have some hint of what and why.

I Have the same Problem: Can't start FM8 1.4.4. An older Version works fine. I have find an Entry in the Windows Event Viewer. It seems, that FM8 crashs on startup. Here is the Event-Log. Hope, that anyone can help me:

Indeed it has to do with permissions, also for me FM8, Absynth
did not work after installation in the default (admin) account.
But after I reset my system, with an admin and music account,
both synths will work if installed in the music account.
In the past the Phase plugin showed the same problem and even
then it had to be solved by creating an extra account on the system.
It is a well-known problem that is probably not that easy to solve.

Hey all,
We have a similar bug with Absynth, crash because of a faulty ucrtbase.dll faulting module. It seems to happen only for certain systems and graphic cards. We're investigating on this. We'll keep you updated.

 

I have the same problem of FM8 and Absynth 5 not opening as standalone or vst after initial install, what do I do? Is there a fix for this by now or must I install earlier version of these plugins?

EDIT: I downgraded to version 1.4.1 of FM8 and that one seems to work fine as a standalone. However when opened in Komplete Kontrol I cant hear the sound previews. The sounds load up tho and are playable. I will do the same downgrade for Absynth. Would be great if there's a fix so I can just install the latest versions.

activating or de-activating "Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support" actually solved the issue for him. **
This can be found in Windows under **

Windows Start > Settings> Time & Language> “Date, time, & regional formatting ”>“ Additional date, time, & region settings ”> Region> Administrative> Change system locale

 

Hello everyone,

I too had problems getting FM8 to work. I got it when I purchased the Komplete 13 + A series keyboard bundle early June this year.
In my case, activating the above mentioned Time & Language setting in Windows 10 seems to have done the trick. It now loads as standalone, loads in FL Studio as well as in Komplete Kontrol. I'm trying to install Absynth 5 next, which had the same problem when I initially installed it.

For the sake of completeness: I also have a user account with a special character in it (é). That gave me problems with Spitfire Audio Labs before (the program created a new User folder with my name and the escaped special character!) All other NI products appear to be unaffected by this particular bug/issue. That is: I had no problems using any of the other packages that came with the bundle.

Hi,
when will this bug be solved. Still waiting for some weeks.
The workaround is no option, because some other programs then wont start.

 

So, Absynth5 is working for me. However, FM8 is not. It just immediately disappears.

The workaround did not fix it for me (I tried it both ways, with BETA on and off).
