It's a promotion to push sales though. This often happens and admittedly some companies do offer a grace period but then there will always have to be a cut-off and there will be people who are a day before that and will complain etc.
I don't think it would be a bad thing, of course, for them to offer this to recent purchasers too but also I don't think anyone can really complain because it's just one of those things. There will always be a better deal around the corner but how many corners do you really want to go round before you just get what you want?

haha nice theory but that won't work. if you check out the bottom of the email youll see :

    * Activate the MASCHINE software during the offer period. You'll receive an email containing one or two e-coucher codes. Redeem the codes for MASCHINE EXPANSIONS at the NI Online Shop.

I've had it since spring 2009, so I've had 2.5 years more enjoyment out of it than people buying it now.

When you buy something, you get what you paid for. You agree a price and you get your product. Anything extra is a nice bonus, but not one you are necessarily entitled to.

So you won't hear any whining from me because some people will be getting a nice deal for a couple of months.

Last year's Merry Christmas from NI was a free soft synth. Shortly afterwards all Maschine owners got a free copy of Komplete Elements.

Lethal pretty much summed up what I was going to say. We all paid what it was worth to us at the time we purchased it, otherwise we wouldn't have one now. Besides, trying to reach out to new customers isn't such a bad thing, it increases our community and enough sales HOPEFULLY keeps all these updates free for existing users.

    Yep.

Still, the amount of suckage increases exponentially the closer you were to the start date for the promo. I was about a week off -- I can only imagine how bad it is for those who were off by a day or hours.

True, but there'll always be someone who is off by a day or hours, unless you give all your software away free to everyone. Or don't do any offers at all, in which case nobody benefits.

There's actually a second part to this offer, the newsletter is going out anytime now.

We're also giving a free expansion pack of choice to everyone that purchased and registered a new Maschine or Maschine Mikro since the 1st of October.

Now the only offer that is missing is:

"for early adopters of maschine, since its launch, buy one expansion and get one free !"

    ;)

Tried to delete a double post and lost the whole thing. Anyway, I was saying that it is not reasonable to expect a company to go and refund previous customers or offer them the same special offers every time there is a sale or promo. You have the right to offer a reduced price for something you are selling without having to go back and trying to even out rations to previous customers. In the real world businesses and individuals do sales and some folks get a deal where others did not and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. That's why the call it a deal.

Some companies try to compensate those who just barely missed the offer like NI is doing here but they are in no way obligated to do that.

So, what about people who own both Maschines, the first one and the Mikro?

I didn't have to register my Mikro, I simply plugged it up. But I bought it after October 1st. There is no record of me registering it because I didn't have to.

    How does this work?

That's very very true. Ableton are very good to their customers.
At the moment they are giving away free retro synths worth about £80 (the same as the NI expansions) to all owners. Now that's a NICE present!

Exactly and that is why I'm a very loyal customer and am always confident to invest in them, they make sure stuff gets fixed before they move on.. i.e Ableton 8.

I downloaded the retrosynth pack and it is fantastic..keeping customers happy keeps them confident!

    Keeps them investing in you.
