Frustrating problem with Mikro3 on OSX

Hi guys, i've had a Mikro3 for a while and something bizarre and annoying keeps happening. I'd like to solve it once and for all. Any help appreciated.

So basically, my Mac SOMETIMES sees the Mikro3 as "Maschine Mikro MK3" (ie, in MidiMonitor, or in my DAW) but other times it decides to see it as "KOMPLETE KONTROL A DAW".

I can not discover any logical reason this happens. The device only communicates with my mac properly when it's called "KOMPLETE KONTROL A DAW" and when it's called "Maschine Mikro MK3" it doesn't work properly. It plays notes fine but other things such as led lights don't work. In my DAW i have to re-switch the input settings every few sessions, depending on how my mac decides to see the device.

It's plugged direct into my Mac (2019 Imac 5k) via USB.

In AudioMidiSetup it shows nothing at all. My keyboard (A61) and Kenton Killamix mini shows up fine.

I had this problem in OSX10.14 and now in 10.15 as well.

Happy to provide screenshots or additional info if anybody needs.

    Hope someone can help

Any thoughts on this anybody? I would obviously usually send request to NI Tech Support but the message I'm getting is that they are not in operation due to the corona virus issue. Hoping one of you clever people can assist me.

    What's your DAW?
Does this also happen if the A61 is not connected to the computer?
How are you using the Mikro? MIDI Mode or are you using it to control Maschine Plugin?

Thank you D-One for the trouble shooting tips.

I tried booting my Mac without the A61 plugged in and fantastically the Mikro behaved as it should! A single entry in my midimonitor called "Maschine MIkro MK3" (as hoped for) and everything working correctly.

The moment my A61 was plugged back in, everything turned to poop. The Maschine stopped working properly and the input names got jumbled up again (including the strange "Komplete Kontrol A DAW" one appearing again).

    So obviously some conflict happening.

Any ideas what i can do to make the two devices work together?

    Best and thanks again

It sounds like you somehow must have miss configured Live's MIDI control surface inputs, do you have the "Komplete Kontrol A" set to use the "Komplete Kontrol A DAW" Port? Are there any other remote scripts there active? https://support.native-instruments....Up-Ableton-Live-for-KOMPLETE-KONTROL-A-Series
    Post screenshot.

How are you using the controllers? To control their respective plugins (Maschine and KK) or are you using them in MIDI Mode? You have to be specific about what each controller is focused on when the issue happens.

    Hi DOne

I don't use Live. I use Bitwig, but as mentioned earlier the issue is beyond bitwig. I don't even need to boot up the DAW for the issue to occur. It is apparent even just in MidiMonitor (like shown on those screen grabs above).

    I use it in MIdiMode

Oh sorry, I was replying to two threads at the same time and got a little confused.
So, both controllers are in MIDI Mode and when you press a button on the Mikro, it says on MIDI Monitor that a key was press on the Keyboard?

In MIDI Audio Setup app > MIDI Studio check if the port is correct for the keyboard or if there's a Mikro port also in there somehow, if it is remove it.
If that fails, try to reinstall both Maschine and KK, it should reinstall the drivers automatically too.

Hey again. Thanks so much for trying to help.

OK so this is what i have on the Audiomidi Setup when just the A61 is plugged in. (this looks the same even when the Mikro is plugged in as well)

    AM setup Just A61.png

Note.... the MIKRO NEVER shows at all in the Audiomidi set up AT ALL. Should it? Does yours?
Note 2: If I click on MIDI-CL tab here, it crashes the Audiomidi set up. Weird. (Does yours?)

ok so, plugging things in one by one, this is what happens (showing midimonitor):

Screenshot below: A61 is only thing plugged in.
Note the two ports but the "A DAW" one seems unused. When i tap keys it uses "Komplete Kontrol A61" as expected
    just A61 in tapping A61.png

Screenshot below: MIKRO3 is only thing plugged in.
When i tap keys it uses "Maschine MIkro MK3" as expected:

    Just Mikro tapping Mikro.png

Screenshot below: A61 AND Mikro3 are both plugged in. This is where it gets weird.
Tapping the pads on the Mikro result in messages from "Konrol A DAW" ! AGHHH

all plugged in tapping the mikro.png

But to complete the weirdness... i just tried it again and this is what i get...

all plugged in tapping the mikro LATER.png

So that last one seems "right". Yet the one above it is not right. Yes it has the exact same things plugged in.

Looking for differences the only thing i noticed is that the order the devices are listed differently. maybe i plugged things in in a different order.

Either way it's obviously not behaving as it should.

Unless this post gives you any new clues, i will try reinstalling everything. I don't have high hopes for that though as I've already reinstalled in the past to try to fix this weirdness AND this is a new Mac. The Mac i had 3 months ago also had this problem. i HOPED that switching macs would solve it so was gutted when i realised it hadn't.

No, the Mikro does not show up there for me either.
    Mine crashes too!

No, I'm as lost as you are, the only last thing I can think of is to download the firmware update apps for both controllers and check if they are up to date. I never seen anyone report this before. If a reinstall doesn't work tech support is the way to go.

ok thanks. I am going to try reinstalling but this time starting with only the Mikro plugged in first. Maybe if the A61 is installed afterwards things will solve. Hope so.

Would you like me to give you an update after for your interest's sake, or are you content to let this one go now.

    Cheers again

Just an update on this, nothing fixed it including the firmware updates. I have now successfully logged a report to NI support and hopefully they can help get this fixed.
