    i have a 15 inch 1.67 ghz G4 powerbook.

i would like to know what is the recommended processor performance under the energy saver option. i had my processor on highest before, but my powerbook was hitting temperatures close to 140 degrees F. right now i have my processor performance on automatic. is it ok to run fs with this setting and will it effect the speed of fs?

    thanks

Although, in theory it shouldn't, in practice, Automatic WILL slow things down a bit in Traktor. Now, if FS works under automatic (as it well should) then you could use it on that setting, but personally I would keep it set on highest just to have the extra processor headroom. Occasionally Traktor chews up a bunch of clock cycles without warning and other background apps may do the same. So it doesn't hurt to be safe. After all, like they say, better safe...

As for the heat, unless you've got something irregular going on (like obstructing the airflow through the machine), while the machine might be warm to the touch, it shouldn't cause any other problems...

thanks for your help. if there are any other mac users who own a g4 powerbook, specifically the new 15 inch 1.67 giga hertz. what's the average temperature of your powerbook. at the highest processor performance, the tiger cpu temperature widget displays 137.5 degrees F for mine.

I have the same laptop and it gets hot... Which can be quite worrying. Especially if its on your lap (unless you are in Alaska ;) ).

It would need to be over 165 for it to become dangerous...

The PowerBook runs hot as they don't have a fan but it doesn't effect the electronics...

I'll check the temp mine gets to later (I am not with Mac at moment) and let you know if yours is abnormally high.

    Hope this helps :)

I have been using my PowerBook for few hours on charge and it is at a steady 60C/ 139F... I think this is normal. (well I hope so ;) ).
