Ok I have FS2, DJ Studio and Ecler NUO4 mixer. I am trying to use the 4 deck option 2 being FS and 2 virtual decks. However the virtual decks i dont get any audio from because I am out of outputs on the back of the FS2 because it only has 2 outputs.
What I am wanting to do is use my 2 Denon 3500's for cd's and also FS2 (which I can do now using my mixer). but also use the 2 virtual decks for samples.
Can this be done with FS2? Hopefully someone has done something like this.
So any suggestion would be greatly appreciated

You can only use 3 decks, not 4. You just need to assign the 3rd deck to the headphone output on the scratch amp.

going to my headphones will not do the trick to add samples to my fs2 setup. Someone out here has to be running my setup or something similar. How are you using the virtual decks, while using fs2 and external nuo4? I would love to have the midi set up using 2 virtual decks, but seem not to beable to figure this out, posted here and also eclerdj.com.

    anyhelp is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

For what I know (by reading the manual of use of the Nuo 4) this is not possible as it require Traktor to deal with 2 different soundcart.
Controling 2 more decks via Midi signal send by the mixer is possible but you are not able to hear the sound of it if Final Scratch is engaged and then your Scratchamp

The trick is to plug the Headphone output to a chanel input of your mixer. Then you have a third deck.
Maybe you can try and see if when you connect the Scratchamp Traktor allows you to select the Hedphone output and let you select it for let's say deck 3. In this case you would be able to use chanel 1 and 2 for regular FS control and chanel 3 for control via Midi cpabilities of your Nuo 4.
    Hope I'm clear.

I will give that a try. I will have to get a cable that has the 1/4 input (headphone) and have the other end be RCA. I should be able to use this as input 5 on the nuo4 mixer. Traktor needs to do something to allow multiple sound cards. I bought the 1616M however looks like I wont be needing it.

    I'm a bit confused...you're running FS2 and TRAKTOR 3.0...correct?

So in TRAKTOR, 2 decks are being used for FS2, and you want to use the other 2 virtual decks thru the NUO4? Correct (sorry, I dont have Ver 3.0 yet so I'm not 100% sure how it works).

So what you would have to do is plug the two outputs (Deck 1/2) into channels 1 and 4 on the NUO4, using the H-LINE inputs (or L-LINE, depending on how loud the scratch amp is).

Then, using your soundcard (with 2 stereo outs (AKA: 4 outputs), you would plug the master out into the COMPUTER IN on the NUO4, and your CUE out to the PFL IN on the NUO4.

Put channels 2/3 in MIDI mode and away you go!

    no?

In OSX 10.4 There is a way to combine multiple sound interfaces to act as one (I have not tried this out on traktor though, so I am unsure about the results).
Use the Audio MIDI Setup application under the utilities folder inside applications. Under the Audio Menu select "Aggregate device editor" (I think thats the name). Then click on the plus sign on the editor, name your device, and select which sound cards you want this new device to use. Hope this helps

Johnny> IN version 3 you only have the scratch amp as sound card. So the only thing I am able to do is take the mic output to the computer input on the NUO4. I am waiting for the new file to come out so that way the midi is mapped for traktor dj studio 3. I may mess around with the midi programming and see what I come up with.
I just wish Traktor DJ studio 3 would support multiple sound devices, not just have the option of scratch amp, or your sound device.

In regards to OSX, I have the PC version and not the mac version so that does me no good. Thanks tho.
I will do some playing around and see what I come up with for a final solution, because I do like the fact that I can use the thru to use just the denon 3500's, but I want to use samples and thats why I would like to use the additional virtual decks from DJ studio 3.
Johnny> I know you have the NUO4, whats your setup consist of?

Unfortunately when you do this "aggregate audio" with Final Scratch it BREAKS the ability to have vinyl timecode recognized. Meaning (if I remember correctly) you can use the outputs on the scratch amp, but it no longer controls the playback.

For simple setups and travel ease (like impromptu/lowkey houseparties) I will sometimes use a cheap little imic (so I can monitor) and use my powerbooks built-in output for the main mix. Nice little setup. Traktor 2 allows you to use an imic and your built-in soundcard without fuss, Traktor 3 puts up a fuss. That's where OSX's aggregate audio comes into play. There are other threads about this setup, but I'd like to mention I encountered some weirdness when aggregating my devices. In the end I figured out the order of operations was important to having Traktor recognize and utilize this virtual device correctly (as it combines 2 pieces of hardware into a software layer that you can name whatever you like). Specifically, the device had to be created in particular order, and your results may vary. The performance of this virtual device wasn't perfect, selecting the outputs was guesswork because the channels were labeled strangely, and occasionally Id get distortion from the imic, which didn't bother me because it's just headphones and it's not a setup I use in loud club anyway. SUMMARY: aggregate audio is quirky voodoo, it's not bulletproof and creates some murky results when used with Traktor, but still glad to have it for casual fun (OSX is pretty brilliant with media).

I totally agree: in an ideal world you would be able to daisy-chain multiple external soundcards together, and software wouldn't even blink an eye. However as it stands FinalScratch and Traktor tax my powerbook (1ghz 1gig ram), which is expected, and as much as the added power of another soundcard would be nice, it seems like a slippery slope for perforance and stability. I'm thinking that Native Instruments is probably protecting their user base (and their own asses) from a support nightmare. Using FX & FS & Loops & 2+decks together is already weird science.

And while 4 outputs would be nice 3 outputs is still pretty useful (using the headphone jack trick - who the hell uses headphones to monitor with FS anyway? at least it's open for other fun). Future version of FS should definitely address Traktor's 4 deck options. Of course that means they'd be expected to offer support for 4 FS timecoded turntables, I wouldn't necessarily demand such a thing, just more outputs for simple loops, bursts, and overlays would be tiiight.

i got a nuo4 from ecler a few weeks ago to try out and was also surpised by the lack of ability to run virtual decks with fs2 on this mixer. its just the way that traktor is, either scratchamp or other, not dual. a new version with that facility would be choice.
