Well this does look exciting, Guru was a great in its day. Ill probably just get this just to add to the arsenal. Hopefully someone will come up with a good template on maschine for it. Still some thinks i prefer about Guru, ease of use as a plugin and round robin with samples, predelay, layering was easy etc. Too bad theres no dedicated controller, but hey im a maschine man now!

okay so they showing something now the 1st trailer was nothing there so not interested.

the name is ***** think guru sound better.

but looks like they refined the visual style interface (looks good, guru looked kinda weak) and added proper sequencing, and some recylce type editing, and full mixing.

    cool

I alpha/beta tested it and I still use Maschine. They're both good, but different creatures.
If Maschine had time-stretch, the ability to extract patterns from loops and apply them to other loops/kits, midi import, and generally more granular control over patterns I'd only use Maschine.

Also about the name, it was intitially called Grid, which I liked better.

once again I will say it....just in case we forgot.... Maschine is king :)

Really though, these are two different tools, Geist is more in line with comparing to bpm, pulse, nerve, etc....

Maschine is more like comparing to......hmmmm...wait....there's not another product quite like it yet :)

It does seem to be like Maschine but without the tight controller integration, though since its FXpansion It probably has a lot of synthesis & style FX built in.

Maybe this is just the kick in the pants NI need to get the next version of Maschine shipping? :)

It seems from the demo it does colour the sound a bit, just like BPM. It sounds nice at first glance. Would almost call it "warmer" than Maschine.

it's not anything like maschine, they are very different. Geist is good though, no doubt about it, and has some great features, but not the same as Maschine. Even if the two were both just software they would be quite different in concept and operation.

Have not seen it yet but if it is indeed an improved GURU 2 then saying it is not anything like Maschine is a stretch. Unless they totally went somewhere else with it. Maschine is basically NI's version of GURU but with a controller. Maschine added sampling, an arranger and better slicing. All things that have apparently been added to Geist along with better effects.

well, I never thought GURU was anything like Maschine personally, having owned both. And from my own experience, these are two different products, sure they are both groove based sampling products but the workflow is totally different between them imo.

Like I said, even without the controller, software to software, they are different animals. There's some things I really like about FXpansion in their products , I always liked their pad layering/fx options in GURU/Geist for example.

But if you think GURU is similar to Maschine then I suppose for you Geist will be similar as well. For me, it's not, that's all I can say on the matter at this point lol.

I guess any software that comes out with pads and a sequencer will be "x company's version of guru" in many folks minds since they were the first to do that style of software.

I don't think similar features/abilities makes a product the same. For example, Ableton Live can do alot of stuff that can be found in other Daws, but I still say it's different than every other DAW out when it comes down to it. Even though you could do most of the same stuff in other DAWs, and there is overlap between Live and other DAWs, the way it's done is different.

That's what I'm saying here, just because it sequences and samples doesn't make it the same :) Again, it's a good product, folks will like it for sure. But if you're expecting something with the similar workflow of Maschine it's not that, it's got it's own style, which is great :)

But really it's all good, will be a great product, good to have in the toolkit for sure if you like it's workflow and the way it does things. They definitely know what they are doing.

there's always room for more software ;)

That don't make no sense. How can you take a random promo video on youtube and say it sounds "warmer" than anything? Aside from the fact that Maschine does not have a "sound".

Anyway, it looks more like an Ableton Live clone to me. It doesn't compare in anyway to Maschine. In fact, nothing compares to Maschine because it's the only hardware/software hybrid sequencer/sampler/drum machine in existence.
