GEMINI G4V Thread

Dear traktor users, I would like to open a new thread about this controller and traktor.

Actually we have got a first official mapping released by geminidj, you can find it there:

Since I'm a traktor + gemini G4V user, I have to say that I find this mapping a good starting point for future developing, but still not aligned with the potential of this wonderful and complete controller.
In this post I will make a list of BUGS and REQUESTS for future features;

BUGS:

• Low knob in Deck A not correctly mapped
• Issues during scratch + cross fader movement, with random commands sended from the controller to the software

POSSIBLE FEATURES TO BE ADDED:

• Sample integration - maybe in deck C and D
• Loop roll function

I made some mappings of my own and I've been looking for the best place to put them. I fixed the "low knob" issue and the other changes are as follows:

*Hold shift and press the LOOP IN/OUT pad for manual looping

*Hold shift and press AUTO LOOP to shorten a loop, or press "SAMPLE" to lengthen a loop

*Hold shift and press KEY LOCK to move between effects

*Press down on browser knob to toggle LIST BROWSING

*Press back to toggle FOLDER TREE BROWSING

*Speed of jog wheels are slowed to about 50%

It would be great to have a configuration based on 2 track decks + 2 remix decks, with pads dedicated both on sample reconding and play in remix decks.
In my opinion the main lack in G4V configuration with traktor is about sample management.

 

Hmm I'll see if I can map the track and recording deck thing with the samples. I did notice that the sampling is kinda weird. And about the random commands thing: I'm thinking about sending it back to the company for that because it seems more like a defect.

I don't know if G4Vs are affected by this issue but on the 2 channel version (Gemini G2V), my Traktor often crashes. By "crash" I mean the decks stop playing and you can't click play to recover playing, a bit like when your traktor soundcard setup is wrong. Also, the controller doesn't work anymore and I have to restart Traktor to fix the problem. Have some of you experienced the same problem ? Do you think it's related to the mapping or to a defectuous G2V soundcard, or something else ?

Btw, thanks for the mappings, i'll try to adapt them to my G2V.

Are you playing with Gemini Asio Drivers?

 

Nope, I didn't know there were specific Gemini ASIO drivers (I just select "G2V - HD Audio device" in Traktor). Thanks for the tip, i'll try to install them (I suppose they're on the CD). Actually I don't think it's related to the soundcard because I had the same issue with another controller a few days ago. Maybe my USB ports are defectuous.

Ok guys, I've got something for you:
this is my first effort with traktor mapping in G4V. It basically starts from Gemini original mapping, but add and change something.

Features
- Green buttons above pads now control 8 statements. The first 4 are selectable pressing green buttons, and for the second 4 you have to press shift + each button;
- Flux mode (ex loop roll button) is driven by SHIFT + scratch;
- Loop roll section now effectively controls loop roll;
- SAMPLE button now is controlling EFFECTS (single): the 4 upper pads are delivered to gater effect, and the 4 lowers are delivered to beatmasher effect;


IMPORTANT - THE MAPPING IS ACTUALLY INCOMPLETE: I'VE IMPLEMENTED ONLY DECK A!

Let me know if you like it.
Next features that I'm planning to insert are sample manager and group effects.

:: BUGS ::
- When you have an active effect, for instance a GATER, if you press the BEATSLICER pad, you have to press it 2 times to activate the beatslicer.
- Beatslicer pads have no output.

Strange behaviour. I suggest you to contact gemini customer support. I wish you better luck than me. I had issues but still waiting for answer -.-

It works both in deck A and B.
Deck C and D are not involved in the upgrade so they are setted as gemini mapper.

CORRECTIONS FROM LAST VERSION:
- many outputs have been corrected. In detail, loops now works good (when you are in loop bank each loop glows only if active), loop roll is ok, and also effects.
- Sample bank is delivered to effects, but pressing one of the 4 lower pads you choose a specific effect (you can change it from the controller manager); pressing one of the 4 upper pads you change the statemenet of each effect.

Please add comments to bring me comments/help and maybe also a whishlist of possible future features to add.

 

K4rl33... I just want to thank you for this mapper you have created. Much nicer than the standard G4V version from their website and look forward to any future updates you may do! I have had my G4V less then 24 hours and your mapper is by far the best I have found!

I think that gemini support is pretty poor and so we have to enhance the potential of this good controller helping each other.
Please notify me if you find lack of functions or if you have some suggestion; I will work on it.

If possible let me know also if your G4V works properly when you scratch and rapidly move the x-fader. Mine has a problem and randomly changes the knobs position in all over the software. I tried to replicate the problem you had but could not make it to happen, only difference my end is im using a macbook pro (late 2009 model). I noticed in your videos it was jsut the gains that kicked in, and both droped to the same value? Limiter issue? Auto Gain issue? (im just brainstorming here)

Although not new to the DJing game, I am fairly new to Traktor. The only request would have now is for decks C and D to be mapped the same way as A and B as I am enjoying the freedom of straight 3 / 4 track mixing (loop crazy lol) and the way you have set the loop roll on deck A and B is flawless

Also with chained effects, the first fx button must be held to stay on, while the other 2 can just be switched on and off normally. Is this intentional?

In an ideal world it would be amazing if the controller was mapped like the SSX / SSZ!

Hi guys!
I have the G2V and I have a problem. Gemini tells you that this controller is 14-bit, but in reality I cannot get more than 128 steps of resolution from the controls. Is this controller only 8 bit, and gemini uses the 14 bit as a marketing tool? Or do I just have something setup wrong? It's pretty impossible to beatmatch when the resolution of the pitch sliders is very poor...

 

I stumbled upon this thread today. I just purchased a G4V, and was sorely disappointed with Gemini's Traktor template. I plan to create a very nice and effective G4V that will take advantage of almost all of the options available in Traktor including the remix decks! I plan to also fix the poor scratching acceleration/response too!

 

Definitely want to keep an eye on this thread I am very much leaning on purchasing this controller to be used with traktor. Can anyone say how mic quality is when using the controller with traktor? Being able to use the mic is important for me. Thanks a lot for the mappings I am looking forward to trying them very soon.

 

Havent seen any news on this post recently is this mapping still being worked on?

 

Hi guys, I'm new here so I don't know if this is where I should be posting this. (Sorry if it's not!)

How were you guys able to make the LED feedback work for the G4V on Traktor? I'm using Traktor Pro 2 and I've already used the mapping from Gemini (which is a bit bad). I've also already updated the unit's firmware but nothing still.

Note: The G4V can control the software but no LED feedback. I've tried everything that I could think of.
However, in VDJ LE (the one that you can get from Gemini's site) the LED feedback works.

If anyone has any idea on what to do at all, I would be very much greatful. Gemini's support is not too dependable...
