Dang I'm close. A single-track of KK works fine as long as I remain on that track. Browsing works, loading patches works, transport/nav controls work - darn nifty.

But if I navigate away from the track the KK plugin is loaded on and then return, I wind up in MIDI mode and remain there forever after -- my installation of KK doesn't seem to have the little "automatic switching" gizmo to recognize that there's a KK plugin loaded in a track. So I've clearly missed something. Here's some info about the setup and what I've done so far:

Komplete 10 Ultimate, Komplete Kontrol S25 (firmware just updated to 112), OSX 10.11.6, Live 9 Suite 9.7.1, Mac Pro (12-core)

I've: updated all the NI software and keyboard firmware, followed the Ableton setup instructions, run KK in standalone mode before using plugins in Ableton, tried both AU and VST versions of plugin, tried a single track with KK and multiple tracks with KK.

So the trivia question of the day is... what did I miss? :)

Thanks in advance for any ideas

How are you navigating tracks in Live? Are you using mouse/kb or the S keyboard?

I have a Push and an MCU which both have track navigation controls and I find the KK does not follow if I use these to navigate. Quick "fix" (which i a pain to remember) is to use the KK track navigations to move a track to the right (or left) then back again so it can re-sync.

They need to adjust the host script to pickup track changes and update the keyboard. It must be possible.

    Oh... <FACEPALM>

It always works - I write a plaintive little post and then discover my stupid mistake. This is prominent in the documentation. I've been using the VST plugin directly, not the Instrument Rack.

"To load KOMPLETE KONTROL in Ableton Live, drag the KOMPLETE KONTROL Instrument Rack from the browser to an empty MIDI Track. Note that at least one instance of the KOMPLETE KONTROL Instrument Rack has to be loaded in Ableton Live for the advanced host integration features to work."
You'll be shocked to hear that it's working perfectly now. Thanks for your comment JesterMgee - for fun I fired up the Push and you're right. Nav on the KK works fine and the Push follows it, but the KK doesn't follow if I use the Push. Great tip, thanks.

Over and out <slinks off to wear the Cone of Shame>

Great to hear you got it working. Forgot to mention you need to use the rach not just the plugin... I did the exact same thing when I first got started.
