    Hi there:
I'm getting a new updated computer PC Win7 64bit (or 32bit?) moving up from my existing PC WinXP 32bit.
I have a ton of NI stuff on my current computer...

    Kore2 with controller
Komplete 6 upgraded from my original Komplete 5 along with with several soundpaks.

I have done many updates online of various NI instruments from the Service Center.
I've updated to Cubase6 from Cubase4 which I will be installing in the new computer.
I'm not completely sure if I should load that as 64bit or 32bit yet.
Cubase and NI are my two primary software packages....
I want to make this a smooth change over to the new computer and the less frustration with this the better, so any info would be really really helpful....so I'm hoping there are some easy straightforward answers to my questions!

What is the best way for me to re-install all of my NI software into the new computer?

Can I or should I uninstall all of the NI software and drivers from my old computer?

Can I or should I install the NI software 64bit on the new computer?
Would I need to download new drivers etc to do that?

Do I need to use the original Komplete 6 disk set and then activate and redo updates or is there some way to download a fresh install from the Service Center?

Will there be some instruments that came with Komlpete 5 that will not be able to be installed?

If there is something I'm completely missing in this checklist, please let me know!

    Thanks

You have to decide if the computer will be 32 bits or 64 bits. If 32 bits, you should have no problems installing a fresh Komplete 6, running the service center and doing the updates.

Unless you have saved the updates you will need to download them again.

I believe all instruments should install as usual.

If you make your computer 64 bit, now you may have issues. (I do not have 64 bit)
I believe not all instruments are 64 bit yet, but real close. I don't believe you will have any problem with drivers.

If you,re 64 bit, the 64 bit versions will install as well as the 32 bit (I think) You will just get the 32 bit versions of programs that are not 64 bit yet.

Your DAW may be able to work with 32 bit programs with a bridge. If you could wait, you may want to keep running 32 bit until all programs are 64 bit. Which may be soon!

Anyway, I'm not absolutely sure about this and I assume many who see your post may be in the same boat. (Perhaps advice you don't really want) :)

Thanks for the comments geoelectro, I really appreciate it.
I think I might go 32bit for now on both Cubase 6 and Komplete 6.
    Should be the most stable.
Thanks for the confirmation on using the Komplete 6 disk set.
A fresh install would be something i want.
Have you had any experience with installing any older disks like Komplete 5 or older?

I'm will look into Win7 in 64bit mode and Cubase 6 in 64bit mode and just use the NI instruments that are 64bit and see if the 32bit instruments will work. I've seen some users using Cubase 6 with certain 32bit plugins that are working properly with the Cubase "bridge" application, so that may be good news. Cubase 6 will apparently look for vst.dll's in the x86 32bit folder. If things don't work out then I will just leave them off until 64bit updates are available or stay 32bit.
I noticed beta versions for Massive and FM8 are out now and on the horizon.

I've done some searching on more responsive forums which seem more active with this type of discussion. This forum always seems worthless...(present company excluded).
I guess it's a matter of traffic and once people don't get much help or assistance here they just don't bother coming back....I never even got a notification you responded so that gives you an idea how poor this forum is working...If I hadn't checked back I would have never known.
Maybe NI will take a look at their forum structure and make some changes to make it more attractive to their user base. To me in an online world this type of support and discussions are so important!

I get notifications on topics I subscribe to and participate in. You may want to check your settings.

As for loading older disks, no experience with that. I recommend always using the latest versions and updates possible.

In my view and experience 64/32 bit is a bit of a grey area. In general there is unlikely to be a problem running 32 bit apps in 64 bit environments. An issue may arise if your external soundinterface (which will need a 64 bit driver) can not be seen by a 32bit app.

Other folks have had better experience but for me 64 bit VST's in combination with different hosts are rather unstable - so I am sticking to 32 bit VST and 32 bit hosts.

It is regretably a suck and see situation which is a pitty since I think VST has matured enough to be used live but is now a tad confused.

Have Komplete 7 on win7 64bit with Reaper 64 bit and runs like a dream. Well, there are some minor issues but related to very old sound card - Terratec EWS88MT (12 years old, long discontinued support), using Vista drivers for Terratec Phase 88.

64 bit is the way to go. This is the advice I got from NI support via long phone chat.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Regards
    M.

Well I guess a tech support would say the way to go is always forward with the latest greatest ..... and to be fair I guess they are right - for a kick off after I decided to go back to 32 bit I very quickly found out that with large sample sizes you need at the very least a 64 bit host otherwise one very quickly runs out addressable memory ....

.... in the case of the vintage 60s drums read instantlly (2.5g of samples for one drum kit) gorgeous though :)

I think my 64 bit vs 32 bit woes is probably down to Kontak 4.2 because since going back to 4.1.x I have had no (lasting) problems.
