EDIT - make that K2.2.1 *oops*

I just tried doing a Giga import for the 1st time.

I was able to import a whole disk at a time but when I went to load the instruments it could never find the samples for any of them. Batch re-save didn't work even when pointing to the sample folder(s) - I gather nested folders are a problem for batch re-save? Too bad. I had to load & re-save every instrument one at a time. That worked, but it was kind of a PITA.

I thought K2 was the defacto multi-format import king? Did I miss something?

So you took a whole "disk" (do you mean CD?) and you clicked the IMPORT button and Kontakt made a bunch of .nki files and lots of WAVE files?

But when you try to load an .nki, it says it can't find the samples and you have to search for them and load them? Are you able to find them and eventually load an .nki?

If that's the case, please send me one of the .nki's in question to nisupport@chickensys.com - before you resave it to find your samples. I can then answer your question.

Exactly, importing from a CD - the samples were all organized into folders, by instruments & then sub-folders for the groups from the looks of them.

Yes to both questions. Once I find & re-load all the samples (typically several groups that are keyswitched) AND re-save the .nki - then I'm good.

    Thanks - will do.

There are some other odd things, like it shows extra keyswitches that don't seem do anything. There are often empty folders after doing the import as well. This is on some of the imported instruments - not all of them.

    OK, got your file

This path should exist - does it?

    UBER DRIVE/Kontakt 2 Library/25 - QL RARE INSTRUMENTS/TEST/Duduk Drones C1-D#1 Mod fltr/DK56 L/Dk56b3.aif

Please make sure it's exact, although it's not case sensitive. This was off the .nki you sent me, which I assume is one that if you loaded right now, it wouldn't find ANY samples.

NOTE - just to be specific, the folder holding the samples is "DK56 L" (without the quotes)

Garth - I have a screenshot of the path. It isn't exactly as you describe.

I'm showing UBER DRIVE>K2 Lib>25 - QL Rare Inst>TEST>Duduk Drones C1-D#1 Mod fltr> then 5 folders, starting with "Default Sample Group" and the others as seen in my screenshot.

The "Default Sample Group" folder seems to be present in almost every instrument I imported - this is the empty folder I referred to earlier. Is it part of the problem?

The other 4 folders hold the samples found in the 4 groups of the instrument.

So I believe according to your screenshot that the the path is correct? It looks like it.

Please save the file as a new .nki and send it to me.

do you mean point it to the samples & resave it or just re-name it & save it (without pointing it to the samples)?

edit - I sent you one of each.

    Re: Giga Import under K2.2.2

    Thanks Knight - perfect!

The problem is that there is a leading space before the name of your "Kontakt 2 Library" folder. It's " Kontakt 2 Library" on your system.

You can fix this by removing the leading space (not a good idea anyway). But then, your other files may not load then.

Either way, Kontakt in it's conversions should have compensated for this; then again, this is a good way of dealing with sloppiness on your system.

    Re: Giga Import under K2.2.2

I see - that leading space is quite deliberate on my part and hasn't been a problem until now, and as you say - if I remove it I'm very likely to create problems with the rest of my (82+ gig) Kontakt library. You can guess where the lesser of evils lies in my case ;-)

Is this a function of the import algorhythm - to get tripped up by a space in a folder name? I don't doubt you - but I'm tempted to try importing an Akai disk just to see if it too has the same symptoms/problems as the Giga import gave me.

Yeah, it's ultimately the convertors fault. Leading spaces are illegal in PC land, and it was sort of "buggy hegomony" to insist on that. =)

It's one of those things that "you should be able to do it" (have leading spaces) but in the grand scheme of things it'll cause you problems, realistically speaking. It SHOULDN'T, but you know...

    Re: Giga Import under K2.2.2

Understood - well, now I know at least.

So this particular library was a 3 CD set and because I'd never imported Giga stuff I also tried importing one disk on EXS24 (Logic user here) and it did fine with everything except when the Giga file name exceeded the 31 character limit (it's always something it seems) , but once I re-named these files to a compliant length they converted quite nicely. Perhaps in the future I'll convert Giga stuff to EXS - at least K2 will open EXS files readily. At least they did last time I tried.

Thanks again for all your help Garth!

    Hey Garth

I am the proud owner of Translator and I am baffled as to how to convert two items to Kontakt2.

    1) Horizon Series - Vienna harps and Glass and Stones
    2) Roland era stuff

I have Mach 5 as well. What do you recommend?

    Thanks!

Sorry for the bonehead post. I figured out how to batch convert Giga libraries and whatever else. But, some of the stuff that was initially Roland, then had been converted to Giga and now trying to convert to Kontakt2 causes Kontakt2 to suddenly close in the converting/importing process.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Shawn

Only thing I can think of is "what version of Kontakt2 are you running" (need full string like 2.2.002) and what is the Import Version (see splash screen).

Best, send the the .gig file to nisupport@chickensys.com

Please use regular email or www.yousendit.com and I can check it.

Just curious: Why do you want to convert these libraries? There are K2 .nki's for them, which you can download from VSL for free as soon as you have registered the libraries.
