Just looking for an equipment list of what it would take to make a legitimate rig for using GR5 for live performances.

Any guidance? I've got the RigKontrol, so I'm assuming a laptop for the software plugged into the PA would work, or should I just practice at home on GR and stick to an amp and pedals for live performance?

Hello, I do exactly as you are describing, I'm just using GR5 Live, plug in Rig Kontrol on my desk and the same goes to the PA and monitor and have excellent sound.

You will need a computer, a sound card, some type of controller and speakers.

You've got RigKontrol so you have a great sound card with a controller built in.
A laptop is best just for portability but one with 2.4 GHz or faster and plenty of ram, it only uses one core so multi cores are not vital.
If you get some cables that have 1/4 inch balanced jacks on one end and XLR male on the other end you will make the sound guy really happy :)
Last is some speakers, if you can have your PA signal run to your own monitor that should be fine, I prefer to have my own dedicated speaker, with your setup you could run left signal to the house and right to your own speaker. If you run stereo to the house, even though it's not ideal, you can use the headphone jack to run to a powered speaker.

Now with the RigKontrol, although it is a great sound card, I find it very limited in live use, you can only go up or down one sound at a time, so if you don't use very many presets or can organize them in order you might make that work.
I use a fcb 1010 midi board, makes accessing presets very easy and has 2 pedals!

    Hope this helps!

Only disagree that the Rig Kontrol is very limited, because it has 8 fully programmable footswitch the way you want, and still accepts 2 more external controls, in my case I use another expression pedal and 1 external foot control, I end it with everything they need to control.

I'm glad it works for you in a live situation.

I use about 80 sounds throughout the course of one night and programming the RK to do that efficiently was not worth it for me. It's a great unit, just not for my needs. :)

i'm using GTR rig 5 pro and the kontrol into a quad processor laptop so I never have latency issues or freezing etc. I run that into an SWR bass amp so my stage volume is all good. The back of the SWR has a direct out so the sound guy gets a nicely warmed off the stage sound with a nice tube EQ. I don't play too loud, and neither does the band so the tone is pretty warm! I really like the flexibility that gtr rig gives me on stage. Little bits of FX and compression are all I use. i have 2 basses i use so two patches with my pedal switches just on/off for the chorus and the EQ depending on the song. It's more than I need but again I dig the flexibility.
