Van51: awesome. I'm really glad they did both clean and lead channels. It's raw and tight distortion for fast playing.

Hot Solo+: it's ok, I guess. probably won't be one of my go-to amps, but I'm glad it's there just in case.

control room pro: I never used the original control room. I found it difficult to get a good tight sound. maybe it sounds authentic, I don't know. I've never experienced a high end studio with a massive amount of gear. the matched cabs work well for me.

    fast comp: good. useful.
    vintage verb: good. useful.
little reflektor: sort of dissapointed. it' a cpu hog, only a few sound choices and not very tweakable. still, it sounds nice. xxl is kind of a ridiculous setting, but still fun to have.
stereo tune: good, useful, sounds best with headphones.
filterbank: haha! Portal 2 anyone? not super useful for your everyday sound, but probably my favorite new module.
resochord: I'm more on the side of experimental sounds, as opposed to recreating classic tones, but so far I have no idea how to use this. it's sort of like an auto accompaniment tool. very strange.

    and the best new feature...
Container (why not kontainer?): I love new tools and new ways of controlling sound. by far the best reason to choose guitar rig over amplitube, th2, gtr, or other competitors. the container is a great way to make fast presets by combining the chains you use most AND simplifying the controls to a programable interface of knobs and buttons. It does make it more difficult to manage your cpu ussage (some of the presets in that thing spike to 80%) but I think it is better used for simple effects chains. I recommend deleting all of the presets that come with it and only putting in your custom chains. NI went a little crazy there.

what are your thoughts and favorite new features?

oh btw, the old cabinets & mics module is gone.

Old Mic and Cabs are there. Go to Options and select Legacy componenets and turn it on. You will have a Legacy header at the bottom of your componenet list now with that in there.

Yea man I LOVE the new CRP, sounds FANTASTIC!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE Kontainer!

The cpu use is just ridiculous.

well, mine is at 44.1 and the lite reflector, vintage verb and fast comp add a ridiculous amount of cpu (I have an i7)

However, thank you so much for the wonderful vid! :D It's going to be very useful in getting used to 5 ;)

my first impression: is that cant hear any improvement in sound quality on any of the old amps compared to guitar rig 4. (thumbs down)

But i like the new amps. Very fun to play with. Dont know what i think about Control Room Pro yet.

All n all i was kinda hoping the overall sound quality would get improved in this update. I still think my old marshall 6100 head has more details and grit than any virtuals out there. Yes I know i would have a hard time telling whats real and whats virtual in a blind test, never the less i allways end up going through the struggle turning on my real amp for the extra satisfaction. I think one day virtual amps will be as good as the real thing, but it wont happen today, nor tomorrow... -now you guys can fry me :p

There is nothing to improve and they state nowhere that there would be an improvement. There are simply two more amps.

Let's not rehash the same old, "I couldn't tell you in a blind test but my amp is better", discussion again please.

And there is. Redwirez cabinet impulse responses do just that.

They do not say anywhere that they improved the Amp sims specifically by redoing them with any new methodology, only that there is new realism, whichthere is with the new cabs, and that there are 2 new amps.

I'm going to eventually get this, but, not right now. Going to probably wait until next year.

Instead, I got myself a Cube 20XL and it rocks hard. Perfect bedroom amp and more than loud enough. I also use it with GR4 on the clean channel. Good enough for home practising.

    Noob question

I am a new user of guitar rig, I'm waiting for GR5, which I bought, but wasn't able to install due probably to installation CD defectiveness. In the meanwhile I am playing with GR4 demo version. Well I am amazed by the quality of the sounds produced by these tools! My (noob) question is: do you believe that a PA is good or a valve guitar amplifier vould be preferrable? I mean the PA delivers virtually neutral sounds, while te valve amp somehow changes the sound itself, enphasizing different tones. I tried the GR 4 demo only with a PA so far ... Thank you Steve

I've tried it both ways. If you want to use a tube amp, it's recommended not to use any amp or cab sims - just the stomboxes and effects. using the rig kontrol, I routed the input 1 and output Left channel through the effects send for post effects using a split module, and plugged my guitar into input 2 going out output Right into the amp for pre effects.

It works well if you love your tube amp and still want the flexibility of GR. however I love the amps in GR and mostly use a PA, studio monitors or a keyboard amp.

I'm a new GR user and noticed when I insert GR to master fx without opening any tools it makes the whole track sound like mono. Are there any tweaks to get rid of it? I mean the racks are empty what could possibly make it to distort the stereo image?

Not sure if I follow but you must first have the r/l inputs selected and then you must make cabs/amps/etc stereo.

Thanks for reply. Everything is connected properly ie l/r it’s all in place. The stereo in GR5 preferences is ON. However, when I put it on the master channel as insert FX it makes the whole track sound mono even though there are no amps/reverbs/cabs opened.

I tried the same with GR3 and it works fine. It affects the sound only if I open any racks, but with GR5 as soon as I open it, it instantly makes it mono. Hope it explains the issue better

I just tried putting GR5 on a track I'd already mixed - all I did was loaded the entire .wav file into Reaper then told it to put GR5 on as a master effect.

With nothing in the rack, it does indeed make it mono as GR5 defaults to L input only; bypassing the effect brings back the stereo field. Clicking the R next to it sorted it out and on my system switching GR5 in and out makes no difference to the stereo field.

If you've ensured that you have L+R selected then I'm at a bit of a loss to know what is causing your problem so apologies if you have already done what I've suggested here :)

dippy and Gary_W thanks so much, you helped me to fix it! I did in fact have only L enabled. I thought dippy was referring to the external settings like with my soundcard or something. For some reason I assumed that GR5 opens up as stereo by default so it never occurred to me that I had to do it manually. Once again thanks so much! :)
