And two upgrade paths, with or without the new foot controller (which looks cool, btw) :D

If I read this right, software only upgrade from GR1 is $119, with the new rig control upgrade is $449. That means the foot controller is $330? Pretty damn pricey, if you ask me... and I think the footswitches look pretty dinky (say compared to those on the GT-8, the PodXT Live, the GNX3000, and the GNX4... and even the fcb1010.....)

    Or am I missing something?

(I just bought a GNX4 and Guitar3456 SuperModels, and am overwhelmed by the quality of the sound and patches. Plus, interface with a computer (and ProTracks, SONAR 4) is flawless, with a separate foot controller switch available (GNX FC) as a control surface for recording. Plus, you can use your own midi files and mp3 loops... and everything works beautifully once you figure it out.)

    incredible!

    Lead800, TweedMan, a new comp, distortion, noise-reduction, even synth(!)-components... , a bass-amp... and and and

a new all-in-one USB-2 (hi-speed !!!) controller. this is another real, great surprise, imho. what converters are in it, NI? please tell us some specs about this hardware; what about the midi-out, latency...?

can't wait to download this update.

Cool stuff. I wonder if the tape decks can slow songs even more for the not so advanced players (like me). The new effects look awesome.

I think BuleriaChk makes a good point on the foot controller. I have the FCB1010 which totally rocks once you figure it out. It only costed $150 , can also be used with external effects processors, has more buttons, and an extra pedal for volume control or whatever you like. Works great with and without a computer.

Regardless, kudos to NI for improving the overall GR package and the more flexible pricing. For new users the foot controller is much better than the one in ver 1.x I will certainly get the software update in the near future.

ok ok, upgrading the software, means the rig kontrol 1, can be used in GR2. This is really expensive now the RKontrol 2.
Mama mia, I love GR2, I want it now. lol

The footswitch has an integrated audio card. That's probably why.

I've only recently acquired a GR, with half a mind on getting a reasonable upgrade path to the new version.

I have to say I'm pretty happy. I don't need the new fancy foot controller (the existing one does all I need it to) and the software only upgrade means that I can get (pretty much) a GR2 for £270. I think 99€ is not too bad - especially since all 4 new amps were on my wish list (good choices!) and the only new effect I was looking for was an auto-wah - sorted.

the update price including the controller is ridiculous. i have to give away my old rig control and then pay 400 eur?? thats exactly 100 eur worth left of my guitar rig 1 which costed 400 eur or so. this doesn't encourage me to buy the update. instead i'll have a closer look at amplitude 2. well done, native instruments.

i forgot to add that dealers like thomann will very likely offer the whole package for even less than 499 eur for everything new. so my guitar rig 1 purchase is even less than 100eur left worth.

The relevant question is whether the basic sounds (without delay, reverb, modulation etc.) are better than in GR1 and how it compares to AT2.

The demo sounds are all hidden in -at least- delay type effects.

    I can't wait to hear both GR2 and AT2!

Is the GNX4 USB1 or 2? If it's one, I wouldn't bother. I've had way too many problems with latency (10ms or more) with USB1 interfaces.

Nevermind. I looked at the site. GNX4 is USB1.1 . What a waste. Why make such a nice machine and then put training wheels on it?!?

Also, I assume those outboard effects can only process one track at a time and even if you accept that limitation you lose the biggest advantage of GR which is that with GR your tracks are clean without effects so you can continually edit and refine the tone.

That's the point, you don't have to give away your old controller, you can still use it. If your GR is working with your soundcard now without problems and with low latency, then you'd be getting the new controller for just two extra foot switches.

Which doesn't come with a foot controller at all. You have to buy that completely separately.

If the old Controller works fine with GR2 the €199 sw upgrade should be a god deal.
I cant wait to get it!

As someone else said earlier it comes with all the amps I would like to have.

    Great work NI!

yeah well...i guess i'm just disappointed that a lot of my original 400 eur seem to have been the price of a rig control 1 which needs a crappy control channel of my a/d converter and is unsellable now as they don't offer the software standalone while the software itself was worth only 80 eur.

It really depends on the driver. For example, I tried using the GNX4 as an audio interface for GR1, and got 35 ms latency (Beta version of ASIO driver under WinXp). I then tried it with Guitar port, and got 5 ms. If I run GR using my RPC-1/Vm3100Pro, I get 2ms using the M-audio drivers.

On the other hand, if I run the GNX4 ASIO drivers directly into SONAR, I get 2 ms. So I can get good latency using USB1 and older interfaces, and I (right now) think USB2 is nice, but way overpriced for the return on investment. I do leave open the possibility that I may be wrong (I've only been wrong once, and that's when I thought I made a mistake).

Even so, I think the interface is overpriced and overkill, but we'll see what other vendors charge for 2x2 USB 2.0 interfaces. I can see 2.0 for multiple channels (like Edirol's 10-channel interface), but for two Audio channels? (think stereo)

But I think the $119 software upgrade is probably worth it for the additional amps, although for me I have so much tone manipulation software it is already overkill. (And I like every one of them - Guitar Port + Model Packs, GS-10, GNX4 + Supermodels, and some of the free stuff (some of which -Simulanalog - is really excellent).

I actually got the GNX4 a a computer-independent recording and performance solution, and I must say I am really impressed with it (especially with Mike's Supermodels). GR has some very interesting sounds, but after awhile it becomes like the 2000 different names for snow........:)

    (Well, ok, Revolver sucks...:)

I tot tally agree with the post below from KVR forum. Let us hear GR2 and AT2 solo and without effects!

"I want some CLEAN, REVERBLESS and SOLOED demo sounds of BOTH Amplitube and GR2.
All that wishy-washy **** recorded by some wannabe rockstar posers, embedded in tons of effects is going on my nerves.
And I want them in all variants: Clean, crunchy, fully driven and whatever.

Seriously, it's as if these companies fear their new, shiny and kickass software wouldn't hold up against anything real when listened in comparison.

Compared to what I've listened to so far (AT1, GR1/2, whatever) I can just get a sound as good out of something more convenient not even costing a quarter.

If they want to go experimental, fine with me - but in that case they shouldn't advertise things like "your search has come to an end - all famous guitar amps in one box", when it's clear that not a SINGLE of the samples existing so far can hold up against ANY real thing.""

I think the price probably has a lot to do with the audio interface, and may translate into a good deal for those who don't have a portable audio/midi interface yet. I already have portable audio and MIDI interfaces, however, and so (with the little info that is provided, anyway), don't see a reason to get RK 2 right now. Speaking of translation, how about an English-language translation of that upgrade info page, NI? Web translation was little help. I think it says you have to send in your Rig Kontrol 1 if you want RK 2? It would also seem that if you decide later that you want RK 2, it costs you $49 more. Not an encouragement.
Well, perhaps they will make some of this clearer by November.
