Wow - this is the program I've wanted since I first bought GR1. It finally seems to have some bottom and "weight" to the tone! I really love the Citrus, White and tape delay. Also the "matched Cabinet" feature is really great. Love it. Love the new controller too. An amazing all-around product. Finally I'm completely ready to start playing live with GR. Way to go NI!

I’m a Rig2 owner since the end of August and missed out on the ‘free grace period upgrade’ by eleven days :-(
Rig3, is really intuitive and well thought-out catering for ‘live use’ as well as studio. The amp sims are well laid out compared to earlier versions and as everyone has mentioned the matched cabs make a big difference, clearer sounding and all together a big step forward in usability.
Less cluttered than before, makes you want to play your instrument more rather that fiddle with settings.
Well done NI development you've really catered to usability rather than function this time (clutter).
However: please work on a RK2 plug-in, as the extra RK3 buttons are frustrating and a blocker for those loyal customers like me, repeat customers who’ve bought RK2s and thinking about the upgrade to superior software (reinvesting in your product and giving you a reason to exist).
You can see I'm still bitter about my first statment....

Thank God you guys added the Ultrasonic. Now I can finally have some real high-gain metal distortions. And no tweaking need! I just downloaded the demo and played with the default distortions in Ultrasonic+Matched Cabinet: it rules! Actually, any setting I tweak in Ultrasonic sounds great, and that's because it is an excellent amp simulation!

Like someone above me said, now I will have to record my tracks all over again, because they sound SO much better.

    I love NI!

    I like GR3 a lot.

'Love' is such a strong word, but you could substitute it for like if you want. :p

I got my GR3 upgrade soft today.
Everything runs smooth, the import of my soundbank works great, no issues there.

I jammed live for the first time since upgrading to GR3. My current setup is a Variax 300 --> RK2 --> Panasonic laptop with GR3 --> Crate Powerblock --> cheap 100 watt Chinese made PA speakers. Pretty economical setup if there ever was one. Other guitar player had a Gibson Les Paul into a JCM 800 50 watt half stack (with a few pedals thrown in). My variety of great tones was just killing him, from SRV like strat clean to the killer new Ultrasonic metal tone pretty much made him want to puke. I'm loving it!

Purchased and download a few days ago. GR2 user here. I find GR3 to be a step forward. Now the sounds (I like classic rock and blues only) are really usable. I'm only playing vintage instruments plugged in. Good stuff.

Sorry if this is redundant - I haven't had a chance to read the 5 pages of posts. But since I mostly post to talk about specific problems, I want to take the opportunity to say that I really LOVE GR3! The new Ultrasonic amp is fantastic as is the tape delay effect. The whole package feels more stable and easier to use. Really great work.

There are only a couple of outstanding issues:

    - The VST doesn't restore to it's saved state (eg. loaded preset) when loaded in a VST host.

    - The Controller set-up screen really should display an RK2 if that's what's being used.

    - The RK driver should be augmented to transmit MIDI to a virtual port.

Bought the software version only and will use it with RK2 for the moment but may opt for RK3 as I sometimes use GR live.

I think GR is now even more user friendly with the new browser and it also seems to sound better than GR2.

The new amps are great and the matched cabinets are a nice addition making the choice of components more intuitive for a smoother workflow.

Live view is an excellent new addition making everything much more straight forward when gigging. It lets you to concentrate playing with a nice uncluttered appearance.

GR3 is a great product and I'm very pleased with it, great work guys.

Just installed GR3 last night - sounds good. Still getting used to the look and such..

In general it seems pretty good - the sound does seem better. I have not had enough time to really give it a good going over - but so far I like it!

Is it my imagination or are there significantly less presets with GR3 then what GR2 came out with? It seems that most of the banks in GR3 only have 15 to 20 patches....and a lot of cool ones from GR2 are not included. There are ~350 patches total so, it's more then the 300 they advertised. I've imported banks from GR2 and they seem to work fine in GR3..

I prefer the less is more approach to factory presets with this version. they seemed to have distilled much finer sounds. I find myself using the presets as starting points much more often then with Gr2.

    mrzosonp,
    I agree.

I find it way easier to get a sound I really like quickly. And it makes using GR much more fun in that way. I can tweak more if I like, and add pedals that I usually wouldn't see the light of day of.

The included presets are ok - nothing spectacular for me - but then I'm around guitar amps all day...

My comment I think was more a result of not seeing some of the cool (for me) patches from GR2 and GR1 - Heavenly Acoustic, the nylon or classical guitar patches, etc.

The nice thing about having a large preset patch base is that you can study how they work. People program differently - even for the same type of sound they will arrive at it via different paths. The more patches, the more base information or raw material. Sometimes it's nice to take an existing patch and stretch it, 'bend' it in essence and see what you come up with. I also have a lot of fun creating my own patches from scratch - but I've been doing that sort of thing (hardware and software) for over 30 years... I just figured that NI would have included some of the already written patches in GR3 - wouldn't have cost them anything. But it's not a big deal for me as I just copied the files over. Of course someone who is just buying GR won't have access to them (unless NI puts them in the User Library....)

I haven't had experience with GR1 or 2, but so far I'm loving GR3. It's so nice to be able to record without worrying about the mic placement and all that (you still have to, but at least you can do it after the fact). There are some sounds I'm still searching for, but I think tweaking will be able to get just about any sound I want. The picking dynamics on these virtual amps are killer, I was completely blown away!

GR3s user interface is superb but so far I'm not at all impressed by the sounds.Even more so after hearing the Waves GTR.

    Spanishmartin,
    Really?
I mean, the AC30 and hi watt are spectacular.
I see what you mean about Waves GTR having great sounding clean amps, but the new models are suberb in GR3.

I played with Waves GTR at my local shops and the gritty ballsy sounds were nowhere to be found on waves.

At first, I wasn't sure this update would be worth it. Just looking at the new features on the web page, it's hard to appreciate how radical a departure this is from GR2. But the more I started playing around with the demo, the more convinced I was I needed to take the plunge and buy it.

First, the new amps finally give GR the edge over Amplitube 2 in the tone department. I prefer the GR interface and controller but to be honest Amplitube's tube amps beat GR hands down. Not anymore. These new amps sound alive and awake. They are really amazing and I especially like how the correct cabinet automatically pops up.

Second, the presets are much simpler to navigate than before. I really enjoy being able to go straight to the amp I want and finding presets within, rather than having presets scattered by type of music (although the classic categories are all still there if I need them).

There are other improvements to workflow and a few new effects, but I can't emphasize enough how the new amp models and the different ordering of presets combine to make this my new one-stop modeling software.
