I think the Ultrasonic amp is an excellent contribution. the Real Wah is also a nice touch. I'm still waiting for a digitech warp function, though. It sounds like the majority of guitar rig users enjoy the experimental capabilities guitar rig offers, and warping amps and cabs (and probably even effects?) the way digitech does would be a very nice add-on. The split doesn't always do it for me. I'm also still hoping for a Rig Kontrol that converts a 13-pin sigal to midi, to be used in Kontakt.

Everybody is talking about the Ultrasonic amp. But for me, the HiWhite TAKES THE CAKE!

I mean, I use it for practically everything now.

For me its the citrus amp running clean and the screamer OD on bass push. Talk about growl.

Hear! Hear! The Citrus is everything I could ever ask for.
With the proper settings on the Lo-cut and Eq's, it can go from V*x bright, M*rsh*ll bark to deep, punchy overdrive that couldn't come from any other amp.
I prefer to run it treble-0, bass-10, lo-cut-0, presence-10, gain and master cranked, HUGE, crunch =).

Yeah me too,That Citrus is a world in itself.. I wonder if I'll ever check out the other amps! Serious tones from crunch to clean to scream,warm,fat.- Incredible realism.Amps and Cabs module after the Citrus with a touch of eq after that, opens up sooo many possibilities.
Getting GR3 is one of the best moves I can remember!

My only REALLY heavy gripe with GR3 is that the cabs/mics section now sounds like sheer and utter crap.

After playing around with the m matched cab, then listening to the same supposed cab in the cabs/mics section, the difference is apparent.

And I wonder if they just didn't bother re-writing this section as the matched cabs sounded so good. It's a real disappointment.

I'm totally digging the Citrus amp too. Try using the Gratifier matched cabinet with it with a Cat in front of it, and maybe a little delay and reverb afterwards..... Rip your face off stuff!

I have yet to fall in love with the Ultrasonic or the High White..... ?

really?-don't know about using the exact supposed cab from A+Cabs, but I found using them instead of matched cab gave me just the sound I needed in some situations.Seems like there's a lot of tonal options there,so could be easy to get a s@£t result too.But I still find it a cool palette to play with...Matched cabs are awesome too of course!

Urrrm, the name of this thread is "Guitar Rig 3 feedback - post your impressions...", and I think I will do exactly that.

With one of the new presets I was able to sit in my office chair and have nice sustaining feedback at living room volume. How cool! That's my main GuitarRig 3 feedback.

I have been slow to upgrade. I burned my fingers on beeng very early with GR2 and got one of those noisy RigKontrols. I eventually had it replaced (although I don't think NI ever acknowledged it as a fault in maunufacture), and was happy with it at last, but I did not want that to happen again. I was also kind of disappointed at the relatively few 'adventerous' news in the new release. But here's my impressions so far:

I like it! I think Marc said something like that it is all the little details that is the real upgrade this time, and he's so right. GuitarRig 3 is a slicker application now. More readable font, the RigKontrol view is excellent, easier to combine preset with your guitar settings (pickup), etc.

I also especially like the new thinking behind RigKontrol with a row of global functions at the top. RigKontrol 3 is just black now, but somehow the entire device looks so much cooler; it's got a certain 'vibe' that only some gear have. RK2 on the other hand looks very unobtrusive, and that's a good thing sometimes too, but.

So far there's no salto from me for the new amps, but perhaps it's just not my musical territory (anymore). I actually played a Hiwatt in a punk ensemble back in the days, but the High White (is it a KKK amp?) is not the same racket... The demos sounds nice though, so they're probably good.

The Ringmodulator has my name on it. Bizarre if you want it, but also great to just dirty up everything you have a bit. The Analog Delay is fantastic! Kind of surprise to me; after all you can just roll off the treble on the other delays, right? But this Delay makes all the difference. The 'Brian May' presets are really functioning now, thanks to this (just an example).
The Tape Echo is also cool, if a little unwildly (like the real thing I guess). Amazing that you can make so much dirt (in a positive, musical sense - as opposed to a clinical sound) with these digital tools.

I like the new manual too, although I'll come back to a few things perhaps. Obviously a lot of stuff from this forum has gotten into that book, and things should be clearer for new and old users too. If everyone actually read that book then traffic in this forum would be down by a serious amount...
But that would leave more room for tone / concept / music discussions, wouldn't it?

All in all a very worthy upgrade for me, and righteous kick in my inspiration muscle.

After reading a few posts about the Citrus, I finally got around to trying it out in last night's jam session... WOW! Killer tone, cut through the mix, just all around great meaty tone. Thanks guys for posting and opening up the possibilities of the Citrus amp for me.

    Cheers!

There's so much talk about the Citrus and the HiWhite... I love those emulations myself, but the one I really got hooked on is the Tweed Delight. The lead tone I can get out of that one is phenomenal!

For me, the killer amp is Ultrasonic (a Bogner Uberschall emulation). It puts Mesa and Marshall amps on the dust. Always when i play this amp, i almost have an orgasm.

    A fabulous amp.

    That's why i'll buy the GR3.

I would have to agree the Ultrasonic is pretty impressive, but then I'm a huge fan of the Ubershall. I will say though, having played with an actuall Ubershall, there is room for improvment. It's missing that "tears the hair off your face" "Bigness" that you get from the real Bogner.
I also have to agree with the rest of the group. The High White is killer (of course I've also been a fan of the original for years). Sorry guys not all that impressed with the Citrus. Not bad, very usable and will use it, but then again I was never really all that impressed with the real Orange to begin with.
My favorite real amps are Marshall JCM800 50W through a 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks. Roland JC 120. I had a morley A/B box that I used to split my signal and feed both with. The tone was pure bliss, unfortunatly the GR3 models just don't sound the same. I love the standard Ubershall half stack. Divided By 13 (little known guy from California) makes an amazing 2x12 30watt and an 18watt amp. Of course I love Highwatts and pretty much all the Boogies. Soldanos are also High on my list and Cornfords are growing on me. I consider myself a tone freak as I'm sure most of you do.;)

    Hey Guys,
This is my first post although I've used NI products for years. I loaded up GR3 about a week ago and I have to say that High White and Citrus are simply amazing. The sounds are so saturated. They don't sound like models at all. I can get fantastic blues and reggae tones out of these new amps.

The only other comment that I would make at this time is that it seems odd (and perhaps I missed this) that there only seems to a be a setting for RK1 or RK3. This certainly isn't a big issue though as it really is only a display issue.

Just got the upgrade as an early Christmas present. I'm happy.

I've never been anything close to a tone freak. I love guitar rig mostly because I hate using pedals and amps. What sold me on guitar rig 2 was its amazing functionality and combination potential. The sound was always incredible to me (though, the ultrasonic is an incredible upgrade for metal tones). My only dissapointment is that they didn't really spend to much time increasing GR3's functionality. I like the "snapshot" feature, but it feels like NI was trying to find a walk-around for assigning multiple controls to one switch.

I'm still waiting patiently for my wah/volume/expression pedal toggling, my amp/cab warping, and my 13-pin synth conversion.

    Unimpressed until now!

I was a GR2 user for a year...and basically have to say that GR2 didn't impress me at all.. If it wasn't for the amount of money I have spent on NI products over the years..I was this (fingers about a 1/2 inch apart) from giving up on NI forever.

GR3 Demo...however...has redeemed NI and I will be purchasing very shortly. Its finally nice to see some progress being made. For a while there I thought NI was going to go out of business because of crappy product and continuous bugs.

Thank-you for your efforts NI..and am very glad you guys are back in the game.

    GR3 Static on MacBook Pro

I have recently upgraded to GR3 from GR2. While I do like the amp & effects models, I am unable to use GR3 in my studio. All the audio output -- even after selecting "clear" so that no models beyond the I/O panels are present in the rack -- is plagued with a nasty, digital static type noise.

I am using the MacBook's built-in I/O. I've used the aggregate device editor in AudioMIDI to create an audio device to send and receive audio to GR3. GR 2 did not have this problem on the same machine & OS version (10.4.x). To make sure it was not a hardware problem, I brought up Apples "MainStage" application -- sort of a light weight GR-type program with not nearly as nice of sounds. It had no static sound at all.

I have tried messing with latency and sample rate. Adjusting either of these are difficult because changing preferences inside GR3 nearly always causes the application to crash. I have tried changing sample rates on the aggregate device too. Whether these are the same or different from those of GR3, I still get the same noise on the output channel.

I would appreciate any help record you could point me to on this problem. GR3 has the potential to be of central use in my studio, but I just can't use it until this problem is corrected.

    Thanks,

I get the exact same thing. Not all the time, but frequently enough to make it an annoyance. I am hoping that the "Improved algorithms for significantly reduced amp and stompbox noise" foretold in the GR3 Update Status post will fix this.
