EvilDragon , Just to say thanks for identifying the graphics processor as being the weak link in my system and causing the high CPU usage. I have installed a new GPU (Asus Geforce GTX 1050Ti) and Timeless Clean is now at 20 per cent CPU so all is good. Many thanks for your help.

EvilDragon, I have still no fix to be able to use GTR 6 without avoiding most amps and high-CPU effects. I cannot reach anyone in Ni to respond to the problem. I am left with a software that cannot be used in my computer. Am I alone in this mess?

It seems there are not a lot of people out there with CPU issues, very few reports. That said I have no idea what is wrong with your Mac specifically (other than the weirdness with the reported CPU core count). I cannot help you further (also I'm not a Mac user).

    Hi EvilDragon,
I have two computers running the GR 6 demo version. All systems are based on Win 10. While my Intel PC can work with GR 6, my AMD laptop breaks down. CPU overload up to 75%. And even with presets that use 35% CPU in idle mode, I have crackling when I load the preset or move the controller. NI support opened a ticket today. Should there be a solution, I will report.
By the way, I think it's nice that the ticket was opened even though I only have the demo version. Versions 4 and 5 run stably.

Which specific AMD CPU? And which graphics card?

    Prozessor AMD FX-9830P RADEON R7, 12 COMPUTE CORES 4C+8G, 3000 MHz, 4 Kern(e), 4 logische(r) Prozessor(en)
As you can see, the Laptop uses the graphic card of the CPU.

    That is likely the problem.

I have the same CPU issues with Windows 10 / 16GB RAM / Intel i7-8650U. My issue persists in both standalone and inside Reaper.

My CPU meter inside GR6 hovers at 60-70%, I get all the cracks and pops, and then every 10-20 seconds it reaches 100% and lose all sound. What's weird to me is that my actual CPU usage as gauged by Windows Task Manager, or even by Reaper, aren't going above 30%. So why is GR6 showing such high usage?

I ran a few LatencyMon tests... disabled my network adapter and enabled High Performance mode... I've ensured all my drivers are up to date... obviously tried altering buffer/latency rates... none of that helped.

I'm using a Surface Book 2 which does have a dGPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050). Based on this thread I thought it could be related to the GPU. I have disabled Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling in graphics settings. But I haven't tested completed disabling the dGPU yet.

I can only offer my experience with a MacBook Pro. I have used GR4/5 for many years and never had a problem. With GR5 the total CPU is no more than15%, whereas the GR6 from the first day it was 70% and upwards, then crash. Taming the beast: shrinking the screen to 75%, turning off the screen when possible, turnoff all apps and wi-fi etc. It is better than before, but still fragile and odd. I have installed the latest update, which is slightly better, but still plagued by clicks, spikes, volume bursts etc. I have switched back to GR5. I have heard that GR6 is expensive in GUI. I have a few messages on various corners of NI that might help you.

I should have said that the DAW version is worse. (My)Ableton cannot handle GR6.

Is there a difference for you in CPU consumption between GR5 and GR6 if the same presets are selected? GR 5 must be set to HQ.
I tested it "Standalone" without a DAW. I can't tell any difference on two computers. The new modules, especially "Raum", are very hungry.

GR5 max 15%. CR6 minimum 45%, with hungry effects or amps 100% and then crash. With a DAW (Ableton) GR6 is very sensitive and messy, not professional.

Live is, first and foremost, not known as a very CPU-efficient DAW in the first place.

You tested that with the same preset? GR5 in HQ? And so big is the difference with you?

    OK so check this out:

Same patch in GR5 HQ mode, as in GR6. Same CPU usage.

Same to me, EvilDragon. I've tested this on two of my computers. One with Intel CPU, the other AMD.
Both computers behave as expected: No Difference in CPU usage.

I will say it again: my GR6 devours CPU. Even with the screen at 75% it hovers around 40% CPU.
