sweet. I retract my previous complaints.
midi + multiple switching control + better pitch + reverbs is worth an $80 upgrade.
I'm still hoping for a sweet revamped rig kontrol 4

All the other improvements are highly welcome.

But where is the core of the amp sim: AMPS?

Two plexi variations: that's less then expected. If you are a classic rocker or pop musician: perfect! All others, modern rockers or metal heads have to buy an expansion pack to get a new amp?

So i get less than a classic rock or pop musician or i have to pay more! In the old updates no style has been forgotten.

With a single high gain amp updating would be a no brainer at all. Even for 99€ then.

So where is a New Recto, Boogie Mark IIC+/IV/V, Engl Powerball/Fireball/Special Edition, Carvin Legacy, Bogner Ecstasy, Randall Warhead, Krank Krankenstein/Revolution One, Peavey 5150 II/6505 (+), Fender EVH III, Diezel Herbert/VH-4, Fryette SIG:X/Pitbull, Rivera Knucklehead Reverb/KR7, Marshall JVM 410H...

It's a "kinda" cheap upgrade for sure, but it still looks very 3.5 to me, judging by the content I've seen so far. Heck, even the 2.5 release which was free(!) (please arrest me if my memory serves me poorly here) had more real news than this 'full' release; it had a great new phaser, flanger, at least one new distortion, EQ, RingModulator and not least the Harmonic Synthesizer.
My guess is that marketing wanted - and dictated - a whole number release now, regardless.
The 'service pack' concept can serve two purposes: what was meant to be in the full GR4 release from the developer's side, but didn't meet the marketing folk's deadline, will be released piece by piece as these packs.
One such service pack can indeed be a RigKontrol 4.
The concept may have been very successful for Kore; new Kore-packs are released constantly and keeps the product hot. Hot in the press and with the dealers, and also generates a general buzz. NI may want to apply this strategy to GuitarRig as well.

Nevertheless; competition is heating up every week in this field. GuitarRig may not have generated enough for NI to merit very deep development (i.e. development of stuff that has been asked for here), and/or it's a strategic decision to cut down on extended development since they see so much competition coming.
    Don't know.
What's frustrating for sure is how NI is doing - non - communication with their long loyal users. Heck, even a single post from the Product manager with some 'juicy bits' would have been something. But no.

"universal MIDI control functionality for the Rig Kontrol 3 pedal board"

This is all it would take to make me THRILLED with the new update (though it's nothing anyone ever should have been asked to pay for... whatever...) BUT, that's assuming it will also work with the RK2. There is no justifiable reason this solution would be compatible with one and not the other, and I will feel really cheated if they take this as an opportunity to shift more hardware to folks who are still waiting to use the old stuff properly.

Also, we have to wait and see exactly what the claim means, and whether it will ever amount to anything. Fill's point about NI keeping us in the dark is a good one - I didn't even receive an e-mail announcement for this update, very weird. So we're reduced to speculating re: Harmony Central marketing and rumors, which I trust as far as I can throw. Remember, we were briefly and vaguely teased with universal MIDI when the RK2 first shipped as well. I'll believe it when I see it... no... after I've been using it for a week.

As for new amp sims, I don't get that worked up about it. If you're creative with cabs, EQ, distortion pedals (if hi-gain is your thing), etc, then you can get a very broad pallete of tones. Plenty of guys use the same amp for entire careers, just effecting and recording them differently to achieve different things.

I paid for the cheapest upgrade to GR4 pro. It's not that bad really. I guess we expected too many additions. Progress has been made, but, it wasn't the 10 steps we were expecting. More like 2 or 3. Remember though, the sound engine has been improved and I hope just hearing GR4 for the first time will convince me it was money well spent.

To be honest, while I like the DAW setup for a band situation; GR is so easy to load up and quickly record demos. In that sense GR is a bargain. Hopefully GR5 will be more ambitious. Hope the coming expansion packs are cheap!

Why not have a Mini Kontrol Switch and a Mini Kontrol Pedal? This is an extension to Rig Kontrol 4 where we can add one pedal or two extra switches or something like that. A Rig Kontrol hub would be available, and guitar rig intuitively picks up the right units when they are added. This would be great for when you need 2 pedals or something. The hub has 4 inputs, 1 for the master rig kontrol, and then the other 3 give the option of adding 3 pedals, 6 switches or a combination.

I actually think the idea of daisy-chaining two Rig Kontrol Pedals is probably one of the easiest and best solutions for both NI and the end users... It was suggested by another poster, but if I were CEO, it would be on the top of my list...

Typically this would require minor firmware modifications, no hardware mods (just black-box a simple USB hub or something), and some minor software mods (in comparison to completely new hardware). It would generate an enormous increase in sales for a very small upfront investment.

    Just my $0.02...
