    Title: "Gear Glory Hunter"

In the UK we have a term for someone who shifts allegiance from one football team to another depending on who is at the top of the league. That term is "Glory Hunter".

I'm going to coin the term "Gear Glory Hunter" here.

This guy strikes me as a "Gear Glory Hunter" - someone who's got to have the most up to date equipment and brag about having it to gain status and to ditch his previous 'top gear'.

Nothing entertains me more than videos like this on YouTube where someone's showing off their gear rather than making music on it.

At the end of the video he state's he's gotta go as he's busy and has things to do and beats to make. Well, what about showing us yourself making some beats on the Ren - that's what we'd really like to see!

I'd much rather go watch a video on YouTube some teenage kid with real skills finger-battering a pad controller/MPC/Maschine even if it is dubstep he's playing - he got skills!
Kids (or anyone) doing this kind of thing gets MUCH more respect than someone showing off their gear or just sitting in from of their Pads nodding their head and laying down one drum at a time at 76bpm whilst giving it all "talk" and big-upping how "phat" their joint is sounding. My gran could do that.

@dj waxxy I understand ur viewpoint

however because hip hop has become more broader in its appeal

so there are gonna be artists u dont like but thats not to say its all rubbish.

also the huy in the vid saying its ur boy, is common phrase and since his video is a fan vid and not an offical promotional vid why would u be that offended by his choice of words?

im not offended so much at the phrase 'its ya boy' its the false sense of gradure they think they should get and false sense of im better than you attitude.its not just against the guy in the intiall vid its aimed at a growing number who are posting vids and other stuff not only on youtube but other sites.

23kon put it down best he hit the nail on the head with his comments..big up yourself rude boy your comments were off da hook

and im glad its not just me who feels the same way about these jokers with there over inflated egos.we should set up a website were we can shoot these muppets down lol

put it this way theres other people on youtube who dont big up themselfs to be gods and they have got amazing beat making skills just look at some of the product demonstrators for native instruments there skills are astounding but you dont see them posting stuff about how big there heads are in fact most of them seem quite humble about there talents.
then you see the so called product specialists for akai and those vids look like ali g has made them theres one out now advertising akai fly and i pissed myself laughing its terrible the beats are crap and the guys look like extras from the cleveland show its 20 years out of date !
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_hoP_o0nT4&feature=relmfu"]Introducing MPC Fly - YouTube[/ame]

then you look at maschines adverts and they look fresh, funky, futuristic and the guys the best on the block..

    This is hilarious.

You're right about the video, cheesy as hell. I mean 88-keys is dope but he probably catching jokes from his boys right now.

I also agree with most of what you are saying. I like some hip hop today, but I have to agree with you assessment. I was listening to Kanye's so called GOOD music group album that dropped and all it is is swag music, corny rhymes, corny 808 beats, not even decent hooks. Dude fell off hard. Drake, Wayne and Minaj hurt my ears (especially minaj, her voice makes me want to stab my eyes out). unfortunately all the little kiddies are into this stuff, that's hip hop to them. I mean Kanye used to throw at least 1 or 2 hot backpacker lines into his songs, now he just talks about how many hoes and bitches he has, what's worse is that he brought JayZ to his level. Its sad because these dudes are old enough to know better.

I agree 808s and heartbreak by kanye west has to be the worst enginnered worst produced album of all time.its unbelievable that he had the idea that it was ready to come out .

He said in an interview that this album was the greatest album of all time and that he was way ahead of his time and anyone who disagrees is a fool .thats how much hes up his own arse .
    ---
Also has anyone else noticed how badly out of time that track is by 88keys?someone at akai should have had the balls and said "put the bong down and come away from the ipad!"

Just listen how badly those snares fillins are they flam and kick the track out of time.

If thats akais idea of product promotion and the best they could do then i say bring on more because one of the reasons i bought maschine was watching vids on youtube i saw how bad akai were and how great maschine was i then went to my local store tried them out and bought maschine.with each akai viewing native sell a maschine lol.

Since the thread turned into a very interesting valuation of present hip hop (interesting indeed) change the title to:

Since this topic has degraded into skull f@ckery I will as well hahah
Djwaxxy I've been "in the hip hop game" quite a long time my self. I'm a boom bap kinda head from the bdp and native tongues / Zulu nation (7th chapter what up!) era and mind set so I understand your frustration but one thing u gotta remember or else your gonna drive yourself mad is. Time moves on. What was once just rap music now holds a culture of many sub genres, not saying I like all those sub genres but I respect that what walks flocka is doing in no way relates to what I'm doing. I'm not mad at Gucci man or his fans, they can replicate and bite all they want. Cause I know in my heart where the real hip hop is (it's ova here!) and I am not gonna belittle other people's view on how it evolved. Sure I think people sound idiotic in those certain ways they act but... They aren't really my people, they have their own culture , just like they may not dig they way I roll.

Point being don't live in the past live in the now. Promote what u dig, let everything else fall to the way side. Other wise they just gonna call u an old hater and move on anyway. Make and promote good music. There are VAST number of artists and fans still into good hip hop. No need to worry about the hip pop and other genres.

I REN so far away....but MASCHINE just couldn't get away? (Apologies to A Flock Of Seagulls).

flux i have a lot of respect for your vids on youtube your vids are informative and unbiased if somethings crap youll say it that way and yeah you may act a little gangsta but not blaintantlly over the top as some do ..:)

and i have moved on musically i like loads of different genres not just electronic and i always give respect were its due and i admit i may have blew up on this thread lol but ive had it bottled up for awhile and it bubbled to the surface this morning like jed clampet looking for some crude lol.

some genres in music have splinterred of into sub genres and got stronger genres such as metal branched off ,house music branched of and in most cases created intresting more complex sub genres but hiphop has splinttered off and with each splintter its gotten worse and worse and with each split the egos have got bigger and bigger.
crunk was created for people with broken mpcs..t pain sounds like a gay dalek whos gotta anal probe stuck..

i do like some hip pop artists like lmfao has created some well crafted catchy pop and one tune which is stuck in my head and has the best video ever is that track by psy..the guy has no ego and has decided to poke fun at the crappy gangsta vids which are on mtv every day the video is pure genius and he deserves a number 1 hit just because of the vid lol.
the intiall vid also wound me up because like i said if the guy hates maschine so much why didnt he just give it too some poor kid whod love it instead of trashing it..

anyway its off topic but heres one rap artist thats bringing it too the table and keeping it real for all the korean possee..light it up !

okay, now that I've finished reading the entire thread I realize what is going on.

    xenophobia

that guy in the video is not a gangster
someone attributed the way he talks as the way a gangster talks
and judged him, judged his music, and attempted to invalidate him.
    it's meaningless.

I'm not saying musically you haven't moved on. I'm saying mentally you have to not let it get you down that hip hop has evolved into many different styles. it was only natural anyway.

while I would like in a perfect world to agree about hating the braggadocio way of hip hop's massive egos... fact is. without that it kinda wouldn't be hip hop.
Ego has ALWAYS been apart of hip hop. its engrained in the culture. every thing from the Battle MC, to the bigging up of your DJ on the mic, to the street culture of being the best on the Block, to being the badest dj, to the break dancing, to the illest Bombs, what ever, it's just part of the culture. sure it bred some idiots who took it outta context. but you gotta take the good with the bad.

and for the record I am anything but gangster in my mannerisms. sometimes to a fault LOL thanks for the watching of the videos btw I appreciate that.

in the end I think what it comes down to is... I've gotten to a point where I try to just make sure my skills can always trump a fool who steps up with an idiotic attitude and ridiculous biter style. that seems to have done me best. smh u should see some of the guys I deal with at shows these days. and for the record. even GM Flash and the furious 5 were not imune to skinny jeans and acting a fool.

yes well that would be my sig Invis... Sorry man, when I read that many moons ago, I realised I couldn't let it go... Loved the humour and the wordplay... I wobble too...
it was then misconstrued as someone being gangsta...:D
I said my words, and left this thread at that point... now i'm back to apologise for your words being taken completely out of context, and misconstrued.
If anyone actually thinks he threw his Maschine in the bin, and didn't take it back out later is seriously in need of a humour transplant....
Oh yeah and to say to flux he talks gangsta is to completely miss my original point...
