I wrote this instrumental tune a few days ago and just finished a first mix.

I used some Indian instruments which I have been wanting to do for a long time. Sitar, tabla and a couple other cool sounding instruments.

It has more of a middle eastern sound than a clasical Indian sound.

Sound chain is Ibanez JS1200CA guitar-> Stereo tube pre amp-> Soundcard line in -> Guiatr rig 3 -> recorded and mixed with Acoustica's Mixcraft 4 - drums done with Acoustica's Beatcraft

Rythym guitar is my low B Strat

How's the mix overall mix sound so far?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Really like your ideas and mix :)

1 thing though, those drums seem quite low in the mix?

    New mix - 06/04/2008

I spent a bunch of time eq-ing tracks trying to get cleaner separation and remove mudiness.
Removed a bunch of pops and clicks on some of the loops I made.
Adjusted levels all over the place.
Pumped up the drums and bass
Bunches of little things fixed here and there.

I had several request for a half way breakdown of some sort

Here's a new mix with a halfway breakdown that goes into a time change.

I like the exit out of the breakdown much better than the entrance.
I can work on the entrance more if I get some better ideas.
    Suggestions are welcome.

Funny, I like the way you use the tremolo effect to drop into the breakdown. On the other hand, the main rythm part seemed a bit muddy to me this time around. Did you change anything or is it just that I listening on a different computer?

The main mix is the same, I just split the tune down the middle and wedged in the middle section.

That was just a first rough mix on that middle section. I burned out on the project and had to take a break for a couple days.

I'll mess with it some more and try and fix the middle section.

    Thanks Cabo

Nice work! Love the distorted swirly guitar sound mixed with the tabla and the sitar! Coolness!

Great sound! Were the tabla/sitar real instruments or loops/soft-instruments ? I've been thinking of doing something like this for a while so it's really inspiring.

    Thanks, appreciate it.

I found several loops on the web.

I chopped them up into small loops.
Changed the pitch to match my tune.
Stretched the loops to match my BPM/ so they would line up on the 127bpm measures.

Yet another mix and hopefully the last one. The old compter was maxed out and stuttering bad during playback, and so I could not complete this project. I just finished the middle breakdown section in the song.

I just got a new dual core hot rod computer up and running that will do 4+ ghz without breathing hard.

    New system:
Dual core 3.16 ghz wolfdale chip with 6mb L2 cache, 1333 buss
ASUS mother board with automatic overclocking feature that will throttle the whole system voltages/cpu/fans up and down according to demand. It will overclock way past 4 ghz if needed.
2gb super fast DDR3 Corsair ram running at buss speed of 1333
    3gb / second SATA drive

    Here's mix #6
