depends how you are hooked up (just talking about my setup thats all)
I did it a few times but the 4D just require a cable from the Booth to one channel of the club mixer, so minimum impact.

Never done with Maschine, if you are not the main act it is true they would find to complicated to implement.

And you can also use 4 decks with Internal mixing which uses 2 mono outputs.

I just bought a second Kontrol X1 yesterday so I can get into using all four decks. Can't wait till after work when I have some time to play with it.

Who cares if someone is annoyed by it? It's only a few cables.

Wouldn't a more appropriate question be:
"Which of you resident DJ's uses 4 decks?"

Soley doing bedroom gigs and playing at friends parties is a whole other ball game compared to playing out live (not trying to rip on someone, I'm just stating that there's a pretty big difference in your overall performance).

residency or not has nothing to do with it. DJ's who play at enough venues are just as much or even more of a dj than residents.

besides that, when you are practicing in your bedroom I think you'll be aiming at the same quality of a set than when you are playing at a club.

You aren't using both CDJ's and Turntables via Timecode @ the same time in Traktor right?

Bad choice of words by me, of course I meant a DJ that spins for $$$ on a regular basis.

Of course you will... but it's a whole other game when you're standing out live for the first time. You'll notice that a lot of the stuff you was used to do "at home" isn't applicable or has to be modified in some way

that's true. however I still love the possibilities of 4 decks when I play live.

I do too! Great for acapellas nad/or loops.

But to be honest, it's not that often I make use of more decks than two, when playing out live.

This is why personally I dont understand people that buy certified mixers with midi etc to controll traktor or specific cdj's as controllers cos when you get a gig your gona turn up and be faced with an A&H or Pioneer mixer most of the time that you cant remove and swap for your shiny mixer or cdj from home. I see pumping money into a slick bedroom setup as abit of a waste if its not transferrable to other environments easilly.

I guess my point is that if your rocking 4 decks at home and it sounds great then you wana be doing that live too so dont get yourself into a situation where its not transferable, otherwise you'll spend the rest of the night saying "well my set could have been better if I'd been able to bring X Y & Z" when no one else knows or cares

yea, i am. two turntables running timecoded vinyl, and two cdjs running timecoded cds, at the same time. i use my Korg Zero4 mixer as my soundcard incase you were confused on what setting i had it on. channel 1 phono, channel 2 cd, channel 3 cd, channel 4 phono.
    ---
i play gigs quiet regular, and every gig i have played after getting my certified mixer the owners had no problems whatsoever with me using my equipment other than theirs. im actually playing at canadas voted number one music festival and i got the heads up last night that i can use my mixer. hasnt been a problem, and im assuming it never will be!

does that mean you need to take your mixer to each gig?
Dont get me wrong it would be great to go places and setup your own stuff but its not always practical transporting a mixer.Unless your the only one playing all night its pretty impossible to swap mixers in a small booth when the party is in full swing.
Thats a good gig at that festival mate! They normally have a couple setups going into the system so its easy to set up while someone else is playing from what ive seen over the years

yea i usually take my mixer to each gig, but at the same time im usually headlining them as well. i live in NB canada so we dont usually have huge names come threw here. i also have my residencies where it is usually just me playing the entire night, on those nights i bring out my entire setup, midi controllers, tables, everything! usually on my residency nights the crowd ranges from 200-300, but at this festival is going to be 6000+, as well i have a great timeslot too, so requesting to use my mixer was not a problem at all.
    ---
as a side note, i just got my mixer a few gigs ago!

I have two monthly residencies and use 3 decks regularly and 4 decks occasionally. Depends on the music you're playing I would have thought.

I've thought of this as well.... Just using my own midi controller and making room for it in the booth can be tough enough. Presonally I would never dream of lugging a mixer around as well.

That's also part of the reason as to why i bought two EKS Otus instead of the VCI-100 - they'll fit on top of every CDJ-800/1000 and most turntables. Also, eventually you'll end up at some piece of ass night club that has a 19" rack mounted mixer and CD, then I might be impossible to remove the mixer.

This is just a word of advice for all you beginners out there - don't count on being able to use your personal mixer all the time.

Weather your a super star DJ or a legend in your own bedroom, your own set up is something to be cherished and proud of .... even if no one ever sees it..... !
It's the place where all DJ's are born and feel most comfortable.
It's where you invent new tricks and test new effects and hone your skills to rock out better than the last guy ....so people go home talking about ya....
2 decks..?.... 4 decks..?..... as long as everyone having a blast... I don't care..!

3..2...1 and your back in the room...!

Counting on it would be unwise. But you could communicate your rider upfront.

I find it to be less hassle to setup my 4D then to install an Audio 8DJ in the booth.
