Hanging notes - affecting everyone ?

Not had nuch chance to play around with A3.

Is this problem universal or anyone got no probs ?

I had some problems with it and A3 at the beginning, but I haven't since the 3.02 update.
Some things to watch out for...
On some systems (mine was one of them), the hold button on the Absynth GUI would randomly come on. Hence, the note would stick.
Another cause of hanging notes is power management to USB/ Firewire ports if you're using either a USB or Firewire interface or a USB keyboard. If you use one of the above, I strongly suggest you disable any power management schemes to the ports. XP turns it on by default: I'm not sure about Macs. On Windows, go into device manager and bring up the properties for your USB hubs. Under power management, uncheck all and reboot.

The most critical problem I have (with A2 and A3) is hanging notes on playback in Cubase SX2. This couldn't relate to MIDI input devices, could it? I mean this is purely interaction between two pieces of software with no hardware involved...

I've been fine since the 3.01 update, no problems with hanging notes.

 

Happens frequently to me when running version 3.0.2.011 in cubase SX3. Tonight it was happening every couple of minutes.

Dear Ni,

we've been complaining about hanging notes for months, ****ing fix it! It is really ****ing up my creative process because I have to turn absynth 3 off every 2 min because it decides it wants to keep playing notes on its own. It baffles me how you can put these products out with major bugs like this. Im seriously never buying ni again, with out a doubt the worst customer service.

I'm having a similar problem using Absynth as a VST within the vst-object of MaxMSP (cycling74.com). Unfortunately, it doesn't clear up by repeating the stuck note in question, forcing me to use the panic button.

Is there a command one can send to Absynth to do the equivalent of the panic-button? Do those of you using Absynth within a traditional sequencer have a different way of shutting things down?

I'm using it live and can't be going to the mouse like this.

Any insight appreciated.

I have to agree, fix it.

I get hanging notes to and this can be really irratating. I never get hanging notes with other products so it does not seem like there is a need in these products to change power management settings.

Does NI read these boards? I never see any replies.

It's obviously not happening to everyone; otherwise it'd be fixed.
If you're having problems, please state your system (PC and/ or Mac, interfaces, hosts, etc.) Saying "This doesn't work; fix it!" doesn't help when there's no way to narrow the problem without more info...

With all respect, EW, while it might not be happening to everybody, it is clearly happening to a lot of people with a wide variety of systems, both PC and Mac with various soundcards. I have it happening on two different PCs - a laptop and a desktop. This suggests strongly a serious problem that needs addressing. I can't believe with the variety of cases here (and in the past) that NI can't reproduce and fix this.

For what its worth, I'm running Windows XP (SP1) on both. The laptop is a Sony Vaio with PentiumM 1.5GHz and 512MB memory, a Echo Indigo PCMCIA soundcard and Oxygen 8 midi controller. The desktop is a Dell Dimension Pentium 2.8GHz, Audigy Platinum Ex, 1GB memory, and various MIDI controllers.

Sorry, I did not mean to offend. To be honest, I have not been able to indentify where the problem is coming from. It happens on occasion so its very hard to localize. I run Absynth from Cubebase SL. It may very well have to do with Windows XP power management or perhaps if I play to many notes in sequence. I have not done a lot of testing to identify specifically what the problem is.

I will try tonight to figure out something more specific if this will help fix the problem.

I am using another machine here to I can't give you all the details but when I return to my machine tonight I will give you more of the specs of my machine if it helps. If I can help to solve a problem here I will certainly try. I am just trying to help.

If this helps any this is the information on my machine:

It's an HP Pavillion with Pentium 4 processor running at 2.8 Gig.

It has 1 Meg of memory

My sound card (or box rather) is a Steinberg MI 4 (comes with Cubebase system 4 package).

My version of Cubase is LE

I also tried to duplicate the problem but as I said, it is an intermitant problem. Sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't. I have not been able to indentify a pattern. I did try my best to cause it just before I wrote this note by playing a lot of notes at once but it did not happen.

What I will do is see if I can't figure out what is causing it when it happens again. Now that I am looking out for it, perhaps I can figure out the action or combination of things that might be causing it.

If I find out, I will let you know.

I can appreciate that these things are very fustrating when they are intermitant and machine specific. My only suggestion is this. I do know that my keyboard does come with a panic button when notes get stuck so this problem seems more widespread than Absynth. For Edirol to include this on their controller must indicate that there is a problem elsewhere.

I hope that some of this info might help. Again, no offense was intended.

If you need any other infrormation I would be more than happy to supply you with it. I am not trying to create a whole lot of controversy here but if I can help to solve a problem then I am very willing to see what I can do to help.

aaaaaaargh this is annoying. I have 4 instances of absynth running and when I render my tracks there is always one instance with the hanging notes. sometimes it also skips a note. makes me wanna smack my head against the screen... I hope NI will try and fix this.

the note hanging here happens in the standalone version and in the vsti version.

Interesting, iznieznot. That's my problem exactly. I don't really care about stuck notes during playing because I don't perform, but the stuck notes on vsti playback costs me hours in mixdown time. I wonder whether this relates somehow to the number of Absynth instances being used? I usually have 3 or 4 absynths in a project...

Can I ask, iznieznot - what sequencer are you using? I have this problem in SX2 and had it in SX1 as well.

I'm using FL studio 5.0
and I don't think it has to do with the number of absynth instances. I think I've had the stuck notes thing with one absynth instance. It has something to do with the patch itself. because sometimes I don't get the stucked notes, or very rarely. but in this project now I have 4 instances and it is REALLY getting frustrating that I have to rerender the tracks over and over because some notes get stuck or skipped.

 

Guys, this could help for temporary risolving a situation and maybe in kind of sense adressing possible direction from the bug is coming from.Wenn I got a stuck note, as I deed like most of the users[ I believe in it. ] software kick the stuck note of every time wenn I reduce the number of voices on min.,means 1.in the Poly window in the Main[Keyboard]Window.Somebody knows more about it?

I'm having the same problem using AB3 within Ableton Live 5.

Not sure if It happened in Live 4.

I've not used it with Cubase yet, but I'll try and see tonight.
