Hanging notes - affecting everyone ?

i`ve only been using Absynth for less than 24 hours now ,but i`m not new to computers or NI , so i hope my comments are still welcome here .

i`m also not sure of the term used for my problem is Hanging notes or not ,what happens to me is like a stutter maybe i just don`t understand the term .


SO FAR this only happens to me with the X-files patch tho

i thought wot one member posted about the hold coming on by itself made sense , so i went back and watched , it at least never lit to show it came on .


i`ve tried most all suggestions here , and still that x-files patch is a problem , i`ve tried several others w/out instance

the problem repeated itself as standalone and in Cubase SX-3x

Thought I'd confirm that I am having instances of hanging notes with Absynth 3 as a VST in Cubase SX3.1.1. The issue is intermittent and, when it occurs, doesn't happen at the same place in a song/project. For me, this is a very minor irritation as it doesn't happen that often and a 'MIDI Reset' will cure the problem until its next occurrence. If I use Cubase and Absynth for c.3-4 hours I may get 1 or 2 instances. per session.

If it helps my midi interface is an emagic AMT8 via Comm Port 1. I have never chosen to run this via USB. My system is PC 3.2Ghz(HT)/2Gb DDR400/800. Asus P4P800E-Deluxe, Creamware Pulsar Soundcard, 2x 120Gb Seagate HDDs, ATI9550(AGP). Using Win XP (SP2), Cubase SX3.1.1 & Komplete 2.

 

Well now that i have a few days under my belt , it happens on any instrument , and i`m lucky to get 10 minutes of uninterrupted
play .

Hope a fix is coming soon , as this may be one of best soft sybths ever if it would work , its hard to tell at this point

I'm not using USB or Firewire. I'm using a PCI card that runs to a breakout box (M-Audio Delta1010), and I get the lock-ups frequently. I also get lock-ups when I run Absynth3 on my laptop (it also has an internal soundcard).

 

Running on an EMU-0404 card, latest and greatest drivers etc.
Cubase SL3.1.1.944.

And sometimes I don't get it, sometimes I get it 3 times in the same song ... Very weird and anoying.

 

I recently purchased Absynth and have it upgraded as far as it will go. I get note hang-ups about every 5-10 minutes. Very annoying and will make it difficult for this synth to be usable.
When is this going to be fixed? This thread was started in early August!
For those who want to know:
It happens as VST or stand-alone. (I'm going to try a DX version in a wrapper, but I imagine that'll do it to.) It has happened with MOTU Traveler and Apogee Mini-DAC as audio interfaces (firewire and USB). I use Ableton Live 5.02 and have a Dell XP Pentium D 3.2GHz.

 

you know I was just starting to do some music with absynth.
I was letting a melody play and playing with some filter settings and stuff. then I changed a waveform and suddenly the infamous hanging notes thing happend. maybe this can be some sort of clue?

As I've recommended many times in this thread, turn off power management for the Firewire and USB in device manager and see if that helps.

I just built myself a new machine last weekend (an Athlon 64 3500+), and like with my old PIII system, I don't have any stuck note problems as of yet. The only two tweaks are turning off power management for my USB hubs (I use a Midisport 8x8) and setting processing scheduling to give priority to background processes (which should be done with a DAW anyways- ASIO is a background process).

Back when Absynth actually worked without crashing on Protools I used to get hanging notes all the time, but it is or was a problem with a lot of the Native Instruments stuff. Pro-53 would definitely do it too.

 

I have also hanging notes.
Hope they can fix it.

i cant find in XP where these settings are

For USB power management , do you mean unchecking allow
the computer to turn off this device to save power , via
the USB hub power management ?

As far as "setting processing scheduling to give priority to background processes " , i have no idea where to find this
setting

Can anyone please advise me as i`m a tad daft

I don't understand how they can make it not to fix this problem.
This is not a small bug.

Please NI have a look at this ASAP.

 

It's stopping me from using Absynth for any serious work ...

It's still fun and inspiring to play with, but I can't make a finished song with it withouh going through "50" retries and cutting and pasting ... It's perfectly reproducible, there's a big enough community suffering from it, and because someone can setup a new PC and not have the issue, it is discarded ...

So for me Absynth is dead ...

It's an insult to Brian that NI is treating Absynth the way they do !

 

They are looking at it- it's been the big priority since A3 was released. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen to everybody- maybe 5-10% of users. And, while I'll agree those numbers aren't good, as you can see if you've read through the whole thread, it happens on completely different systems with no rhyme or reason to why it happens.

That's an incorrect assumption. I'm not an NI employee, and I have nothing to do with deciding what's fixed and what isn't. I was just stating what I had observed with my system.

Be assured that Brian's still the main force behind Absynth, and that he wants to find out what's causing this as much as all of us on the forum do.

So what I would do when I was in charge and a bug like this was in it and they can not find it would be "PROMISSING" to al users that a "FREE" update would become ASAP.

And some apologizing would be in place.

I believe I stated this before, but don't want to start an argument about it.

I can reproduce the problem quite easily. Tell me what to do, what do they need, debuggers I need to run, options I need to activate, dumps to create so that you do get more accurate information.

Yes Yes Yes and thrice Yes!!! - I've read about this for months and I have this problem virtually every time I use Absynth - it can hang every couple of minutes at times as others have described. I've got v3.0.2.011 which I use in ProTools LE 6.9 with Digidesign Mbox interface all on Win XP Pro SP2. I wish NI would sort this out soon cos it spoils the experience of using a really top product. Seems to me that too many users on very different systems are having these hanging note probs. Mind you I'll try this USB hub power management idea to see if that helps.

I also experience one or two other problems but none as annoying or burdensome as this - most notably non-reactive pull down menu options for loading different waveforms in some modules such as the Wavechanger - I select a different wave but the option remains as sine.
