Has anyone found a good way to make Maschine work inside of Sonar?

I cannot seem to find any templates or anything out there. Its almost as if NI planned on Maschine only being used in Ableton sometimes because that is the only DAW it really plays nice with.

It works fine with Logic & Pro Tools.

How much do you know about midi?

What's it not doing? What are you trying to get it to do?

Perhaps you can state what you mean by defining "work"..?

I and many others have both Sonar and Maschine.

i mean literally i open maschine in sonar and i cannot send any midi to it. cannot get any audio from it. the controller will light up the pads but that is it. literally the software just doesn't work in Sonar outside of it opening. I can get it working with Reaper but I am not a huge Reaper fan. Its a good DAW just not for me. Ideally I want to sequence it inside of a full fledged DAW using the maschine controller as a pad controller and to browse sounds in the maschine software. I may just keep working in Maschine stand alone and find work arounds though because I am not sure that Maschine will ever work amazingly inside of a DAW that is not Ableton.

Audio wise, when you start it up make sure you select the multi-out instance. Then set up individual tracks with the Maschine outs as their audio inputs.

So there must have been a few steps you went through to set up the midi i/o for Maschine (each group & sound) in Reaper. Should be the same for Sonar...... Open Maschine in Sonar. Go through each Group you want to use as a kit, or for triggering samples. Set the midi i/o for them. Go to each sound you plan on using as an instrument (piano, guitar, sax, whatever) & set up the midi i/o for it.

Then set each Sonar track to send midi to Maschine.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I know how to set it up. I am not a noob I am saying its broken in Sonar. It just does not work as it should. Its the same as setting up any other multi timbral vst. I can set multiouts for kontakt no problem kontakt works fine with Sonar Maschine with Sonar not so much.

Why didn't you take a look at the threads I posted for you in the Sonar forums where you posted the same question? In one thread there are step by step instructions. There's also other methods... All there in front of your nose if you bother to take a look and do a bit of research. I've even made a template. Just read the two threads links I gave you to look at yesterday (third time I've pointed this out now)... Cheers...

That's why we were asking you questions about what "broke" means. You weren't very specific.

It doesn't make sense that you can make Kontakt work & not Maschine. Kontakt activates & assigns default midi channels for each instrument. Maschine does not. That's the only difference. If you're saying you went through & set everything up on the Maschine side, we're going to need more information.

I made both threads within minutes of each other. Did you bother looking at when the threads were created?

Its all good I am about to give up on Sonar every time something looks good with it I get nothing but headaches.
I bought the Propellerhead Balance interface and Sonar doesn't like it. I buy Maschine and Sonar doesn't like it. I owned Reason well before buying Sonar X1 and Sonar doesn't like sequencing instruments via rewire. Though it worked perfectly fine with my copy of Sonar 4 I was using previously. Nothing but headaches when things work right in other DAWs. I think instead of banging my head against the wall I am going to just keep looking for a better solution. Thanks for the replies.

You clearly didn't look at my threads, there is a template which would have got you up and running straight away.
You don't need to use rewrire you can just do it on MIDI clock. You can also run it as a plugin, You can also easily run it as a MIDI controller. I think your issue is understanding how Sonar works and general routing. Maybe even MIDI. I'm running it perfectly happily. I've got outputs running on all channels. BTW if you really need to use it with Rewire you can.

Your issue is not Sonar, it's how you understand it. If another DAW works perfectly fine for you then that is perfectly fine, but please note Sonar is working perfectly fine as well so it's wrong to blame a piece of software just because you haven't worked something out, or it seems to complex or time consuming for you.

I don't think you know what you are talking about. So you are making up reasons to blame me. There is no reason why opening a plug in wouldn't output any sort of sound from its own main outputs to a DAW. No reason at all why that method should not work yet you are trying to defend Sonar. Routing is not this complex thing that takes so long to understand. I set Maschine's main outputs to Sonar's main inputs on an audio track. I used Sonar for years and recently came back to it. I stopped using it again because rewire with Reason didn't work right. Now that I have sold my Reason I wanted to try it again this time with Maschine gives me nothing but problems. I do the same setup (because output to input is the same thing in every DAW) and it works with Reaper, the Studio 1 demo, and Ableton but not Sonar. Again I read them but the only thing of use in that thread was how to setup multiple outputs with Maschine 1.8 which I already knew how to do.

Oh that explains it then
Guess "not knowing what I'm talking about" seems to bring me a working system where I can sync with any app capable of it and you not....

    Right :p I blame the tools... ;)

Yeah glitches in broken tools explain a lot. Just to add to this I downloaded the demo for X2 I am still on X1 mainly due to glitches and how broken X1 is. Maschine still has a few issues but its not nearly as bad in X2 as it is in X1. Of course it can't be that it doesn't work well in Sonar when it works every where else though right? You sound like a fanboy rather than seeing the issue for what it is you are trying to defend Sonar. A DAW that is known for being buggy.

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but to clarify... You've got Maschine's main outs routed into a Sonar track (monitoring enabled on that track), then with Maschine's GUI called up, you hit a pad & get no sound?

When you hit Maschine's record, do the midi notes show up in Maschine's sequencer?

    > You sound like a fanboy rather than seeing the issue for what it is you are trying to defend Sonar. A DAW that is known for being buggy

Ask yourself how can it be that it works for me but does not work for you... Rather than actually trying to get down to what the issue actually is and explain it in detail you prefer to dismiss the software as buggy, and tell others "not knowing what I'm talking about" or you are "not a noob".

Your original Q... "I cannot seem to find any templates or anything out there. Its almost as if NI planned on Maschine only being used in Ableton sometimes because that is the only DAW it really plays nice with. ".

Well I had a template you could have downloaded, by all accounts you haven't found or done this (or you haven't admitted you have).... but then "you already knew about this"... alrighty.

Now this thread has suddenly moved onto a rewire issue (BTW are you using 64 bit rewire because 32 bit won't work, and you never bothered with MIDI clock?), I suggest the issue is how you are going about things, as I said, I can sync any app that supports it with Sonar.

You know I could actually try and help you if you really wanted it, instead you prefer to blame your tools and everybody else for your issues. I don't claim to be the ultimate expert of Maschine in Sonar, however I persevered and worked out a way and realised the issue was me and not the software. I had patience and finally I got there, and there are definitely others who know more than me here, but you see, at least I admit this rather than blame something else.

Thunderkyss is trying to help you I suggest you bag your attitude Mr and listen to him, a person who is trying to help you... Word of advice though, explain the steps clearly, what you are trying to do, what you are expecting and what actually happens.

After you resolve this, you might want to do a video about how to set up in Sonar afterwards and we could all hail your expertise in the matter... As you seem to be a tips, reviews etc hipster sort of guy... Who clearly is "the business" and an expert at all things... I would look forward to seeing it, your presentation skills aren't that bad so at least you have something going for you...

    Cheers...
