Your fast track pro has two sets of stereo outs, you use one set for the main mix, one for the monitor mix- assuming here that you're using internal mixing rather than an external mixer, as you haven't specified.

You need to do some basic configuration of traktor- one output of the fast trak pro for the main mix, one for the headphones. That's why the traktor preferences dialogue where you told it which sound card to use ("output routing" or something) lets you set separate main and monitor outs.

Once you've done that, you can plug headphones into the fast trak pro (though the headphone amp isn't the best ever, I have to say). There's an A/B button right next to the headphone volume knob which toggles which output is being monitored via the headphone socket. You can verify everything is right by loading different tunes into the two decks, and having one right up on the crossfader, the other with monitoring activated. You can also then set the monitor level, monitor select control and all that other stuff to get your monitor mix how you like it.

I am using a Vetax VCI-100 to mix with. I just can seem to get everything to work properly at the same time...

No audio actually flows through the vci-100, it's just a controller, what I said stands. Mixed audio comes out of one stereo pair on the fast track pro. The other pair is used for the headphone mix. The vci-100 just sends midi messages, no actual audio flows through it- so it's not a mixer, it just has mixer-like controls to make maniplulating Traktor easier.

If you did have an actual external DJ mixer, you'd be setting Traktor up differently. Understanding if you have a mixer or not is fairly important as a first step for working out how to configure everything.

When you get a little further along, if you want a pre-rolled mapping for the vci-100 and Traktor Pro, this one is nice:

Note that you would need to read the accompanying notes to understand how it works.

It's important that you understand the basics about what the different bits of hardware actually do, as it makes setting them up a lot less frustrating. If you're new to this sort of equipment, take some time to sit down with a strong cup of coffee and skim the manuals. I'd also start with the Traktor LE that came with your vci-100 rather than Traktor Pro- just while you learn the basics of setup, it might reduce your stress levels, you're fighting too many things at once right now.

Man you should seriously write a DVD on how to set up Traktor...
