Hey there guys.....i am after some help.

I am purchasing some speakers, an amp and audio dj 2.....so i can do some parties etc etc.

I want to know what is the best set up....i will be running all the tunes and mixing them through my laptop using the excellent traktor pro software.

will i be able to hook up a microphone aswell, would the mic just plug into the amp? how would it all work....i would welcome any help/advice and assistance in this matter.

    Thanks guys

i would throw in a mixer into this setup, you can hook up a mic

also, mixing with traktor without ANY kind of controller is rather annoying

If your on a budget, check out the numark M3 for your basic needs. if you need more then two channels, look at a 3 or 4 channel mixer. Mixers would give you inputs for mics, and anything else you might need.

I agree with Frace, however, at one of my upcoming gigs this is exactly what i will be doing, so, all i have to say is, if you can afford some type of controller, go for it.

Hi guys thanks for that...it not really going to be a mix session, just a gathering of folk wanting bit of a knees up.

So there will not be that much mixing going on tbh.

Could do a bit but mainly would be messing around with one track at a time....

But would need a mic to do some chatting you know, where would i plug the mic into.

Speakers into amp, amp into audio 2 dj sound card, as would headphones.

    Am new to all this

    Thanks

    HG

first thing you need to do is understand the direction the audio signal is going in

    it should be

    computer connected to sound card
sound card connected into amp's inputs
headphones connected to sound card's outputs

if your amp does indeed have a Mic input - use it... - however most don't. That's why the suggestion was made for you to use a hardware mixer ( which would be connected in between the Audio 2 and the Amp).

    Crucial D is quite right,

Also, trust me on this one, DO NOT plug a microphone, into the uncontrolled output of an amp that is turned on. it will be the loudest, worst noise you have ever heard in your life.

that's not bad value for all that (what brand are the speaker boxes and amp?)

so now, you'll connect your headphones into the Mxer's headphone socket. This way you will be able to cue the next track in the normal way.

I'm in Oz too - where u based?

    Hiya,

I think thats a pretty good package to get me started.

The gear is from a company in Melly called DJ City....

When you say cue as normal does that mean that deck A and deck B on traktor pro on my lappy would be channel 1/2 on the mixer...i have never ran my lappy and mixer and amp etc etc...i have always just used my desktop speakera...you know what i mean?

I am learning all the time here:)

    i m in Adelaide mate.....city of churches....hehe

your Audio 2 sound card will output 2 stereo streams
    :
Deck A from outputs 1 & 2 - these will go into line channel 1 of your mixer (red is right channel and white is left channel)

Deck B from outputs 3 & 4 - these will go into line channel 2 of your mixer (red is right etc)

you'll have the fader up on channel 1, playing that through the master.

But you'll be able to listen to Deck B in the headphones with the fader down and monitoring Channel 2 on the mixer

you should get a DJ mate to show you - this is all really the absolute basics
