HELP: Kontact freezes PC

When loading a Cubase SX cpr. file my system hangs as it attempts to load the sounds into Kontact. It appears to be more unstable with instruments containing many samples. I now have about six months of work which I cant open. The problem persists with v1.2. I have tried removing and reinstalling all plugins/Kontact and SX but no joy.

 

I don't use Cubase, but here are a few thoughts.

If you could previously access those songs without problem, something must have changed in your setup. Did you install other programs, specifically virus scanners which could be interfering with the loading process? Alternatively, is the disk space on which the sounds reside still ok? Try to load those sounds in the standalone version of Kontakt and see if that works. If not, do a scandisk of the disk containing the sounds.

What I'd also suggest is creating a new song and loading Kontakt VSTi with a few of those sounds, like in the songs you can't load. See if you can save and load that new song.
