    First post to the forum.
I am trying to decide between buying the software only version or the one with the Kontroller.

I use it only @ home for playing/recording. From what I can tell aside form the obvious ability to grab the Kontrol to play live - the only other advantage is the ability to use the expression pedal. Is there something else I am missing? I'd appreciate the input from those in the know since I would like to purchase asap.
    Thanks.

You pretty much answered your question, if you're not going to be playing live or don't have a need for controller pedals you don't need the Kontrol.

I would however recommend that you do get the Kontrol, even with recording you will want to be able to change presets on the fly, etc.

Also if you don't have any other sound interface the Kontrol IS a sound card interface.

Hi & Thanks for the input.
I am using a Mac with snow leopard - 4 gigs or ram and use an apogee duet as an interface.
I do have an expression pedal as well - but don't see where I would be able to work that into the equation.
I do like to use an expression for wah when I had an Axe Fx that was something I enjoyed a good bit.

Are you able to program your own uses for the expression pedal: morphing between two amp/rigs & controlling gain/ delay volume/feedback etc?

The easy implementation of an expression pedal is IMO one of the best points for getting RigKontrol. It has its own of course, but you can even connect two external ones as well. You can use your favourite soundcard for audio i/o and RigKontrol for - control. This is what I do. To use your pedal otherwise you do need an input labeled 'Ext Ctl' or something; typically found on some keyboards and indeed dedicated control devices. You can use any expression device for anything within GuitarRig; wah, volume, morphing, parameter tweaks on the fly. . . Super flexible

Having the Kontrol is also great for using a laptop if you ever find yourself in need of that option because the Kontrol is a very good audio interface and the software for assigning the different parameters to the switches and expression pedal is great....easy to come up with interesting combinations of functions for different patches.

    Get the Kontrol

Hi there, I'm a Guitar Rig v3-4 user and have to say that getting the software without the Kontrol is like getting a pizza without toppings. If you are simply interested in experimenting with sounds then yes, you don't need the Kontrol but I know myself I cannot live without a wah-wah/volume peddle; that alone makes it worth getting the hardware. The fact that they work seemlessly helps too. I really love my Guitar Rig and would highly recommend the full package. Shop around online; I got completely ripped off paying MSRP price at my local music store when I could have paid 50% less on line with a "student" license...just FYI. Cheers and happy guitaring!
