I have been having trouble with Sonar and Reaktor DXi.
When ever I open a project that contains a Reaktor DXi track and then close it, Sonar crashes and will not start again. It is some KERNEL32.DLL page fault. I have to reboot my machine to continue working. I should be able to open and close sonar projects
with Reaktor tracks as many times as I need to with out having to reboot my machine. I already uninstalled Reaktor and reinstalled
it again with all the patches.

    My system configuration:
    Dell 1Ghz P3
    128 megs RAM
    Reaktor 3.05 (plus DXi patch)
    Sonar 1.31

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello Anthony,

have a look at your Wibu settings first:

    Go to the system panel

Double click the green Wibu icon.

    Go to the setup tab.

Deactivate all ports except for USB (if you have a USB dongle).

    Reboot.

If this does not help, make sure that the DXi plug-in is really version 3.0.5 too (right click on the level meters in the toolbar/About).

    Best regards

I already tried disabling all ports except USB in the
Wibu settings. When I do that, Reaktor DXi no longer works.
I get an error message from Sonar telling me it can't load
Reaktor Dxi. I have to reinstall the Wibu driver in order to
    get it to work again.

    Hello Anthony,

did you ever got an error message saying "plugin could not be found" during the installation of Reaktor (3.0.4 or 3.0.5)?

Did you check the version number of your Reaktor DXi plug-in in the meantime?

    Regards Marius

I have confirmed that it is using version 3.0.5-02
The problem seems to happen when you create a file
with a Reaktor DXi track, then save the file. When the
file is reloaded and then closed, the crash occurs.

    Hello Anthony,

I still can not reproduce it here. Could you give me a complete list of your used hardware (including devices connected to the parallel,USB and serial ports). What kind of dongle do you have (USB or parallel port dongle)? If you get the error message after disabling all ports except for the USB port in the Wibu settings I assume you do not use a USB dongle???

    Regards

    Dell 1Ghz P3
    256 megs RAM
    Win98SE
    Reaktor 3.05 (plus DXi patch)
    Sonar 1.31

    Nvidia Geforce3
    Echo Darla20
    Sound blaster Live(Midi)
USB devices: Reaktor Dongle and cable modem.

When I disable all ports except USB in the Wibu settings
Reaktor DXi stops working. When I load Sonar projects that
used a Reaktor track, Sonar disables them. If I try to add
a Reaktor track, Sonar says it is "out of memory".
Once I modify the Wibu setting I can no longer get Reaktor DXi
to work again. I can re-enable everything and it will still not
work. I have to reinstall the Wibu drivers to get everything
    working again.

    anthony -

i have the same problem. whenever i close a sonar file with an r3 dxi sonar crashes. i can reopen sonar if i wait until the button on the crash info box turns from cancel to ok before i hit it, but it's still pretty bothersome. sonar also crashes occasionally in the middle of a project, or when i close just a project, not the program. when i posted this same question at the sonar newsgroup a few people said they had the same problem (then the thread seemed to get lost in the regular deluge over there). dunno what it may be.

    win2k sp2
    asusA7V133
    r3-3.0.5
    sonar 1.31

I reinstalled Reaktor and the dongle drivers.
It works again, but Sonar project bug still remains.
    Please do not forget me!

    Hello Anthony,

sorry, I do not read this forum daily. Please write to our German support address:

    support@native-instruments.de

Please note that we have bank holidays until Tuesday so that I will not be able to reply to you before Wednesday.

You also did not answer my previous question if you once got the error message "plugin could not be loaded" in the end of the Reaktor 3.0.2, 3.0.4 or 3.0.5 installation...

"I already tried disabling all ports except USB in the
Wibu settings. When I do that, Reaktor DXi no longer works.
I get an error message from Sonar telling me it can't load
Reaktor Dxi. I have to reinstall the Wibu driver in order to
    get it to work again."

What are the exact words of this message?

"I have confirmed that it is using version 3.0.5-02
The problem seems to happen when you create a file
with a Reaktor DXi track, then save the file. When the
file is reloaded and then closed, the crash occurs."

Strange. This is exactly what happened with Reaktor DXi version 3.0.4, but we actually really made sure that it was solved in version 3.0.5.

    Best regards

    happens here too

it used to happen nearly all the time to the point where i gave up on using reaktor as a dxi. but since then ive reinstalled windows xp as a standard pc (to avoid irq sharing) and now ive got to a point where reaktor only crashes *sometimes*. its workable. ive done all the usual suggestions, eg wibu key. but that didnt really improve anything.

shame as i previously used cubase and reaktor vst on the same machine and it was rock solid.

if you read the sonar newsgroup its clear that there are general reliabilty problems with sonar and ni dxis (not just reaktor). i hope they will be sorted soon as both reaktor and sonar are brilliant products.

also there seems a definite bug when using reaktor instruments that are driven by the reaktor clock. (which isnt fixed in the latest dxi fix).

This happened to me at first but has stopped. I'm not sure why it stopped so unfortunatly I can't help. I did the wibu thing and made sure I had the latest update for Reaktor. I guess that worked for me. One thing comes to mind which is very general but might help. Turn everything that is not necessary off in your startup menu by going to run/msconfig (I think). I previously had other memory problems recording audio because of an anti-virus program running in the backround. It may or may not help this situation, but in general anti-virus programs particularly can create problems when running in the backround.

i have the same problem. i tried all the things mentioned above in this thread with no luck.

i do not get these crashes in all my projects. one project with only one reaktor instance never shows this behaviour but another one with two instances crashes everytime i close it! maybe that is the problem...

in WinXP i don´t get error messages like "runtime error..." but sonar won´t shut down properly. in WinME it´s the same but with messages and then i get a pagefault in kernel32.dll

    cheers

it used to happen previously before you guys fixed it but now with sonar 2 and xp, its back.

    help! :)

Sonar 2.0 XL works fine so far with his own DXi-synths under WIN XP Pro. If you try to use reactor 3.0.5 build 002 with his DXi-patch you will be back in software bug reality and you may wish to have a hardware synth.

My experience is if you include reactor as a DXi-synth into sonar 2.0 to play midi data i.e., everything seemes to be fine, but if you try to open reactor panel, adjust some dials, choose different snapshots, ensembles and close the reactor panel more than one time you will get trouble. In most cases reactor kills the midi patchbay driver first and than the audio driver. If you close sonar 2.0 you can get nice error messages like "Visual C++ Runtime ... Error". After that you need to switch off your computer because you can't restart sonar 2.0 again.

I'm not shure if the guys at NI are aware of these problems. They promise a lot in their advertises but they don't respond quickly to e-mail support requests of users having difficulties with their products.

Regarding this sonar 2.0 versus reactor 3.0.5 build 002 thing, I'm at the opinion that these are a couple of ordinary software bugs in reactor which are not fixed yet. As you can see their release candidate is using a couple of digits behind 3... and this is an appropriate method if you have to deal with software in beta stadium, if you have to fix bugs on a daily basis.

I think an update to reactor 3.3 is urgently required.

    Same here

I have the same reaktor 3.0.5 Dxi in Sonar 2.0 problem under WinXP. Sonar seems not to terminate correctly and then cannot be restarted. It shows up in Task manager and cannot be terminated. Eventually, Windows crashes out to a blue screen. Nasty...

I am very disappointed about this, because I just bought Sonar and love Reaktor... has anyone tried wrapping the reaktor VST with a VST->Dx wrapper and seeing if that is more stable? (I don't own a wrapper, otherwise I'd try it).

reaktor 3 in fxpansion vst wrapper crashes even harder than the dxi... don't bother :)

i recieved and email from tech support indicating this would indeed be fixed by 3.3

    hurray!

the only time it ever crashes on me is upon exit so thats no big deal. just don't close sonar until i am done working :)

yup - as i said earlier in this thread it happens to me too.
ive long gotten used to it..

but one thing is even worse than this, is that in some of my sonar projects i cant even delete some instances of reaktor dxi. if i do sonar just crashes. ive tried everything, disabling audio, disabling the plugin first, having an empty .ens - it still crashes.

another small bug - in sonar 2.0, if you insert reaktor using the synth rack, the current ensemble wont load next time you open the project.
