hmmm I'm not really sure whether it will be an upgrade but the AMD processors have fallen a fair way behind Intel these days, it certainly won't be any faster and I would expect, although i don't know for a fact that it would be slower

I'd say go with a Mac unless ur getting good performance on XP. I have an HP w/ Vista and TSP is unusable for me. I will wait for 1.0.3 and reformat and do a fresh install (fingers crossed.) Out of curiosity, what kind of latency are you able to achieve on your machine running xp?

Go Mac. I agree 100%. I was a Mac user long ago... I had an Apple IIe and then some macs and a powerbook, but i realized more than 10 years ago that PC's with windows and Linux were the way to go. I now do all my computing on PC platforms, though I will never, ever, ever go as far as using Vista.

However, when it comes to live performance of any kind, I'm a true believer that a Mac is more stable. If you're looking for a machine to use with T(S)P, and you're going to rely on it to be crash free during your sets a macbook is the way to go. Get yourself a lightly used 15" for 1100$ on craigslist, max out the RAM and you're off to the races. put a fresh install of the OS on there and don't use it for anything else. I can't see this being a bad way to go.

Oh.. and even more important than my "yes mac" opinion is my NO VISTA opinion.

As a side point to mac's in terms of hard drive choice, should i go for 250GB or 320GB?

Well I bought MBP a couple of months ago with 250gig and I allready regret it. Since I do producing and live recordings with it as well I am rapidly fulling it and have to copy projects on other hard drives.
Also get the 7200 rpm version instead of the 5400rpm. I have a 5400 and actually not having any troubles with it, but hey... if you're going for a bigger drive, as well getting a faster one :D

    The most important feature

The most important feature to look for in your cpu is the level 2 cache. Trust me, from experience with all types of processors, ram amounts, operating systems; computer with large cache always perform the best.

mac can not reach this performances for these prices, and these series has installed 7200rpm sata2 HD, you can choose how much ram, what type of all the HW in it, is an "assembled laptop", I've one of this and is a beast machine, really the best, and the prices are unbeatable.

don't go with mac, windows 7 is the answer to you question!

Which is yet to be proven.. Quite a gamble.

And didn't MS say that about Vista too?

I'm an IT PRO beta tester, and I can tell u that windows 7 is very very far from vista in terms of speed and stability.

I never installed on my work computer and my laptop vista, and I will not install on any computer also If a client ask me for install it!

but tell "mac computers" (I would like to know all names and brands of HW components of a steve job computer!) is the best computer for running xp or vista, is really really pretentious!

I've a moster machine that have double power compared to the best macbookpro on the market, and cost the half!

well mac book pro can't have my processor, @ the end, and can't have a 7200 rpm sata2 hd, and for DAW processing is at least A Must, and traktor isn't free from this affair.

    imho.
