HELP - Traktor S8 error 'Hold S & Q buttons during startup in vegas mode'

Hi,

Can someone help me with my error on my traktor S8 controller
I get directly the error 'Hold S & Q buttons during startup in vegas mode' on the displays on the S8 HW
I reinstalled Traktor PRO 2 and drivers S8
Stays the same ....

Any tips ?

Hello,

if you get this message while connected and running pc&traktor, it can indicate some problem. Maybe there is no connection with a computer - or computer is switched off, or the connection failure. So, try to change the usb port (just try to insert it to another port on pc), or try to replace usb cable / or if you have the opportunity to try it on another computer, definitely give it a try... Or try to check usb connector on the Kontrol S8 - if it is loose maybe it is physically damaged and not well connected, needs to repare.

If there is a proper usb connection (and not running traktor) it will display "Start traktor software or press shift + right back for midi" - this is sign, that connection is ok / and in case of running Traktor and if this message appeared, means some traktor software failure.

Btw, what is your pc/mac configuration? Model?

And is this the first time you are trying to get S8 to work on this computer, or you are getting this "error" after long time of use?

p.s.: "Hold S & Q buttons during startup for Vegas Mode" is not en error message - it is just initial info, while it is only in standalone mixer mode, without connected to computer. And if you'll follow those lines, you'll get some fancy disco preloaded presentation .

I'm using the S8 for couple of years. Always worked like a glove
I'm using a self compied laptop CPU intel core i7 - 4600 CPU @ 2,9 Ghz - 16 RAM x64 processor
I replaced the cable usb to usb B, changed USB ports on the laptop .. stays the same.
the USB ports are working for other applications (charging, data on phone, ...)
So I presume that my S8 usb B input port is damaged somehow ? Would you agree ? Is there maybe a way to reset the S8 internal software or doesn't the S8 machine have that ?

Hi I-Splinter,

hmm, just one thought - can you see kontrol s8 in the device manager? / I assume, you are running window 7 or more recent / Here is the link how to open device manager (i don know your level of pc skills https://www.digitalcitizen.life/ways-open-device-manager-windows ). So, after you ll get into the device manager, if system recognize the kontrol s8 it will appear like this:

(my system language is slovak, but I hope youll get what i mean )

If there is no device it means that there is no connection - faulty usb connector or cable. If you ll find "uknown device", this is suspicious and maybe it has to do with faulty drivers... Btw, what version of windows you have?

If you ll find kontrol s8 in Device manager, you should try firmware update: https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/ " Device Updater for Traktor Kontrol S8 1.1.0 - Windows " - maybe it will help.

And about that connector on S8 - try gently push it to the sides - if it will move, the problem is certainly this...

Anyway, i would try another pc or mac - who knows (i know, while in quarantine it is more difficult)...

Btw there is no internal reset function.

I use windows 10, checked device manager , traktor S8 is visible and doesn't give errors, also no crash reports in traktor my document/native instruments ....

updated the drivers but have the newest already. Think I updated the last from 2018 last year

I tried to push the USB B harder, more to the left, right ... nothing
checked it with flash light, no dust or other materials, clean like washed vag
Tried my work laptop, installed drivers and software S8 , tried again, same problem, so problem has to be in HW S8 i presume

My garanty is just expired since 3 months
Do you think native instruments or other experts can change the USB B port ?

hmmm, it is really strange behavior. Because if it is found in device manager, the problem must be elsewhere (if there is a problem with connection, it would not be recognizable by windows), You mentioned, that you updated drivers - ok. Have you tried to update firmware via the link i mentioned? What it says?
