I've been using Traktor Pro/Traktor 3 with an M-Audo X-Session/ESI u46SE setup for some time now with no issues. I've recently upgraded to a Hercules RMX as both controller and sound output, however I'm getting glitches in the audio, particularly when cueing up tracks on the non-playing deck and also when loading tracks into the other deck. The setup the same as the previous controller/sound interface and it did not suffer from the same problems.
I followed the ASIO install instructions, I tried changing the buffer level from 10ms upwards with little effect. The machine is an XP machine that has been optimised for audio production, not running antivirus and the previous drivers have been uninstalled first.
    Any ideas?

    Hey Rearly -

No such problems over here but then again I'm not routing my audio out from my RMX (my specs are in my signature).

    Some questions/guesstimates:

    * Are you using the latest Hercules drivers? -->

    http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=2&fid=28&pid=215&cid=1

    * Do you have another sound card (onboard or external) that you can route your audio through to see if the same problem is present?

    * Have you tried another USB cable between your 'puter and the RMX?

    * Have you tried posting the same question over at the Hercules forum? Here is a thread that describes something similar but with VDJ vs. Traktor -->

BTW - Put your specs in your signature to paint a picture of your setup for us.

I have used the web updater to get the latest drivers and firmware.

I'll need to get back my old ESI to try that, but I will do so. In the meantime I have done further experimientation:

I tried a different USB cable and also a powered USB hub but to no avail. I followed the pdf on the link you posted, I had tried most of the performance tweaks already.
I experimented with the buffer size and noticed that the glitches changed as I went higher, becoming smaller and more frequent, sounding almost like a flange effect as it got higher. Finally I hit 50ms and the sound is clear so far, so it appears to be performance related and not power.

Is 50ms considered normal for the Hercules device? It's a lot slower than what I had with a lesser setup.

    I'm using a Dell Latitude D620, Core 2 Duo 2GHz with 2GB RAM. 100GB Internal HDD and 320GB external Hi-speed USB HDD.
Windows XP SP2, optimised using the following guide:

Dell is famous for having serious driver issues causing DPC latency, but I'd assume you'd have those problems with that on your old setup as well. You still might want to check it out though. You can find the latency checker at http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml

I ran that and went through the devices. When I disabled the DVD device, it improved enormously. The glitches happened every few seconds before, but once this was disabled they became much less frequent. They're not gone totally but at least I now I know I'm on the right track. Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this now. Thanks!

How about your wireless radio? Did you disable it as well?

Yes, I had that disabled from when I had the previous setup as it was causing problems back then also. I now also have the wired ethernet port disabled.
